Johnston & Jeff revamps bird food packaging

Johnston & Jeff is revamping the packaging for its entire range of bird foods.

“This is a considerable project,” says managing director Richard Johnston. “We have over 127 different foods, and we are phasing the work across quite a period, but starting with our main and best sellers. Some of the wild bird products are already on the shelves.

“Ours is a premium brand with a genuine history and genuine values. Those values are derived from our manufacturing processes, and the quality and cleanliness of our foods. As a result sales increase steadily year on year. But it is critical to make sure that consumers understand the offer and the benefits of the different foods.

“The wild bird range covers four different categories at the moment: Blends, Special Blends – such as our Robin & Songbird – and Individual Seeds & Feeds, plus our Suet Foods & Specials. Now people can see at a glance which is which, AND see the key benefits of each food.

“Our Aviary and Parrot products are being developed at the same time.

“People are very serious about their interest in birds and they will choose good products which are genuinely beneficial and have genuine nutritional values and increasingly they are choosing on quality not price. We know that the information on our packs is valuable to them and this higher profile packaging will have a significant appeal.”

KEY POINTS:

  • clear, easily read product points
  • instant information via tick boxes
  • strong brand appeal and distinctive presentation
  • all foods manufactured and produced by Johnston & Jeff
