UK firm launches £150,000 luxury dog house

London-based company Hecate Verona is launching a range of luxury dog manors with an exclusive price tag of over £150,000 for the most expensive design.

The extravagant dog houses feature smart technologies such as heating, air conditioning, indoor and outdoor lighting, cameras, food and water feeding systems, treat dispensers, sound systems, TVs, and a conference calling system where the dog and its owner can communicate with each other!

Apart from its practical interiors, each of the delightful dog manors also showcase the best applicable hardwoods and natural stones such as marble and dolomite.

The deluxe dog homes can also be customised as per the demands of the owner, following which they are built, assembled and shipped to their destination in two to four months.

Prices for the plush pet homes start at $40,000 with fully equipped high-end models costing up to $200,000 (£155,000).

With an objective to create a majestic and royal looking dog manor that complements the garden and the surrounding in which it stands, Hecate Verona started its development project about three years ago.

On its website www.hecateverona.com the company describes its products as ‘the most exclusive dog manors in the world’.

The website states: “Merging handicraft skills and high-end technology with years of expertise, the Hecate Verona Manufacture has pushed engineering, craft and design further than any other architect or manufacturer before, culminating in the creation of truly unique and exclusive dog manors.”
New pet store offers unique shopping experience

A new independent pet shop has set its store out to help owners make more educated choices that promote their pet’s health and happiness...

A new independent pet shop has set its store out to help owners make more educated choices that promote their pet’s health and happiness.

My Pet HQ in Morpeth, Northumberland, has been opened by Caroline Coppen, Diane Coppen and Terri-Louise Anderson, who have experience in pet retail.

“We realised there wasn’t something out there that really supported pet owners, understood their needs and offered a unique shopping experience that put their pets first,” Caroline told the local newspaper Morpeth Herald.

“We very much have an animal-focused approach and that’s at the heart of everything we do.”

My Pet HQ will mark its opening with a funfair-style event to coincide with Morpeth Fair Day on Sunday.

Terri-Louise said: “Having already welcomed the public through our doors, we wanted to do something really special and official to celebrate our opening.

“Morpeth Fair Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to join the local community with our own little funfair.

“There will be something for everyone – including cakes, party games, exclusive discounts and prizes.”

Stress in senior pet jobs alarms recruitment expert
Pet industry recruitment specialist Lynda Ward admits she's alarmed when senior managers or even directors seek lesser roles after complaining about stress...

Pet industry recruitment specialist Lynda Ward admits she's alarmed when senior managers or even directors seek lesser roles because of stress.

Asked why people are prepared for a drop in status and salary she replied: “The main reason is stress, caused by a variety of reasons, including pressure of responsibility and long working hours.”

She adds: "I always caution my contacts to think very carefully about a downward move as their perception may be askew and potential employers will be wary.  There are pressures in every job - different but not necessarily better."

Lynda, founder of Pet Trade Solutions, says the current most sought-after role for job seekers is that of Sales Manager.

“Increasingly when sales people are dissatisfied with their current role or employer they either want to move up the ladder or, in some cases, down the ladder!

"Whilst it’s quite understandable that candidates aspire to a management role due to progressing their career or increasing their salary it’s quite interesting that few people seek to stay at the same level and somewhat alarming when I hear from senior managers or even directors intent on a lesser role.”

Lynda is always happy to personally advise on any aspects of recruitment and marketing strategy and can be contacted on 07946 743784 or at lyndaward@pettradesolutions.com

PAWBO to debut at PATS Telford in September

PAWBO, part of the world-leading Acer portfolio, is set to make its debut at PATS Telford on September 24-25, showcasing its exciting new product innovations for the pet retail market.

Investing heavily in the UK market, PATS will mark PAWBO’s first time exhibiting in the UK, bringing with it its exciting PAWBO Theme Park concept. The theme park currently includes the interactive Pawbo+ pet camera, and the newly launched Pawbo Catch.

Launched to critical acclaim in 2016, the Pawbo+ has captured the attention of pet owners and retailers ever since. Putting pets firmly into the palm of your hand, the Pawbo+ camera utilises a special Pawbo Life app that enables owners to interact with their pet whilst away from the home via their smartphone. From dispensing treats to capturing content for social media uploads, the Pawbo+ packs multiple features into a single unit.

Pawbo Catch is the perfect accessory, designed to keep pets entertained for hours.  Set to be a firm favourite amongst felines, the Pawbo Catch features a sleek standalone unit, complete with a neon feather and ball topper. Controlled via remote control or via the Pawbo Life app, the Pawbo Catch moves in random directions, creating a colourful streak of feathers that will provide hours of entertainment.

Ray Lin, Marketing Director at PAWBO Inc. said: “We are looking forward to attending PATS later this year. PAWBO and the PAWBO Theme Park are brand new concepts for the UK market, and we feel that the PATS event is a great way to forge new partnerships and retail channels.

“Our research has shown that PATS delivers a valuable audience that we believe will love what PAWBO has to offer. The role of pets is changing, with more and more owners viewing them as part of the family.

"The discussion around responsible pet ownership is also coming to the fore. PAWBO’s core values  - Stay Together, Play Together - is reflective of these trends.

"We believe that our ever growing product portfolio will provide a range of fun, interactive products that will benefit pets and owners, whilst also providing retailers with some additional profit opportunity. We look forward to meeting with UK retailers in September, and hope that they love the products as much as we do.”

Pet retailes wanting to find out more about PAWBO are invited to join the team onstand at PATS (stand G40).

Two further course dates for the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificates of Technical Competence in Dog Walking have today been announced by the Pet Industry Federation.

The Level 2 City & Guilds Certificate in Dog Walking deals with the main issues and responsibilities that professional dog walkers encounter during their work.

Each comprehensive course covers first-aid, handling with emergencies, legislation; roles and responsibilities of the professional, as well as practical skills in assessing the dogs’ behaviour and walking requirements.

The accredited qualification provides reassurance and peace of mind to pet owners that their pets are in the best possible hands.

The inaugural dog walking course held in May generated excellent feedback, with one student summing it up, stating: "This course has been invaluable to my dog walking business, I have learnt an extraordinary amount in such a small amount of time. I wish this course had been available when I started my business, I believe every walker should undertake it, it’s well worth the cost."

The new course dates are:

14 – 16 July – Hadlow College, Kent

19 – 21 September – PIF office, Bedford

Each course is run over two and-a-half days, and the assessment will be undertaken by City & Guilds approved assessors and will comprise written tasks and practical assignments. The cost for each course is £250 for PIF members and £300 for non-members.

Angela Ball, owner of Pets In Town on Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells, is calling time on the store after more than 20 years in business.

"The time has come, I need to retire," said Angela.

"I've always had shops, since about the late 70s/early 80s. I had one in Maidstone before and my youngest son has one in Chatham.

"It is sad to close, especially for the girls who have put a lot of time and effort into the shop.We have a good rapport with all our customers, it's sad for me."

Store manager Millie Minasian says that she has handled and sold a variety of different creatures over the 15 years that she has worked there.

She said: "I've always loved this pet shop, my children always came in here and my son had a job here. When one of the managers left he phoned me up to say there was a job going and I started working here.

"We've sold tarantulas, we got a lot of people over their fear of them over the years. Nothing scares me though - my son bought me one for mother's day!

"We've sold everything hissing cockroaches, millipedes, snakes and lizards."

Meanwhile Susie Culmer, another Pets In Town stalwart who has worked there for 17 years, said: "I studied animal care for three years at Plumpton before taking a job here.

"It's quite difficult knowing that we will be closing soon, all the customers are being very nice about it. It's tough."

Skinner’s Pet Foods will be sponsoring the Dog Arena for the second year at Countryfile Live in the picturesque grounds of Blenheim Palace from August 3-6.

Although the name Skinner’s has been synonymous with working dog food since their first ranges launched back in the early 1970s, this year the company will also be able to promote its new range, Life,.

Life is a premium pet food carefully formulated with the help of vets and other experts in canine nutrition, to create healthy recipes which are free from artificial, colours and flavourings. It is available in Puppy, Junior, Adult and Senior, with Sensitive available for those dogs needing a fully hypoallergenic option.

The range is perfectly balanced containing super premium ingredients – including optimum levels of all nutrients and essential vitamins and minerals – to form a highly palatable diet for all stages of a dog’s life.

The sponsorship of the BBC Countryfile Live’s Dog Arena continues to provide the perfect platform to promote the link between good nutrition and happy, healthy working dogs and pets alike.

William Delamore, Skinner’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “Skinners is delighted to be sponsoring the Dog Arena at the 2nd Countryfile Live Show.

"We were incredibly proud to sponsor the Dog Arena at the first Countryfile Live show last year and are honoured to be given the opportunity once again. We thoroughly enjoyed last year’s show and the exposure it gave to the Skinner’s brand therefore we jumped at the chance of doing it all again.

"Last year we were fortunate enough to meet so many different people and their dogs - of all shapes, sizes and breeds -  but they all had two things in common; their love of their animals and the countryside and all it offers.

"It’s a great event for the whole family and I understand this year’s show is set to be even bigger and better than last year so we are all very excited!"

Tim Etchells, Managing Director, SME London Ltd (organisers of the show) added: "Last year’s inaugural BBC Countryfile Live exceeded all our expectations – and we intend to surpass even those, this year.

"To have such a major pet food producer as Skinner's Pet Foods on board as one of our main sponsors for the second year is a huge asset to the show."

Over 600 exhibitors will be at BBC Countryfile Live, and the event is expecting to attract over 120,000 visitors across the four days. Skinner’s can be found on Stand E21 and the company will also be taking part in a Q&A session in the Quilter Cheviot Theatre on the Saturday afternoon.

Around 350 students at Exeter University cuddled a guide dog between exams and managed to raise over £1,200 for Guide Dogs.

Alec James, vice president, welfare and diversity for the Exeter Students’ Guild, commented: “It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome the Guide Dogs and their owners and also the team from MARS who have supported the event today at the Guild.

You’ll also see an interview with trial judge Andy Jackman – himself highly respected in the sheepdog trialling world – and a few words about the idea behind the trial from Noel Armstrong of The Hogs Back Brewery Co, who organised the competition.
