Pet industry still recession-proof, says recruitment expert

The UK pet trade will continue to be regarded as the ‘recession-proof Industry’ despite the cost-of-living crisis, predicts a leading recruitment expert.

Lynda Ward, owner and founder of Pet Trade Solutions, utilises her decades of experience in the trade for dedicated recruitment and marketing solutions

She says: “It’s noticeable that the trend in pet dog ownership towards smaller breeds is ever increasing and likewise towards small animal and bird ownership – with their associated living costs being obviously less than owning say a Labrador.

“Nevertheless, until now many owners have been happy – or should I say ‘able’ – to pay for high price food and to pamper their pets with the abundance of treats and accessories available.

“But with the general rise in the cost of living it doesn’t take a crystal ball to predict that people will start to wonder if Fido really needs that new coat or that particular brand of food.

“However, after predicting gloom and doom in one sense, I know that the pet trade is composed of many highly resilient companies and people – from manufacturers and suppliers to retailers – who, with a good honest look at their business, careful planning and the best staff, should definitely be able to ride out a potential storm.

“Added to which the ability to look at what the customers and their animals really need and making sure to be able to put excellent products to the market at sensible, affordable prices, will enable growth.”

Lynda ended by saying: “Helping and advising worried owners to be able to continue to really look after their pets will also be key to the survival of many businesses.

“Knowing this trade so well for so long, I am confident that we can continue to be known the recession-proof Industry.”

Lynda is always happy to personally advise on any aspects of recruitment and marketing strategy and can be contacted on 07946 743784 or at lyndaward@pettradesolutions.com
