One of the world’s leading animal insurers – Agria Pet Insurance – has shared the 2022 puppy names and trends that have shot up (and down) the charts.
Over the last five years, puppy names in the UK’s top ten have largely stayed consistent with Willow, Bella and Daisy leading the charge for female pets, while Milo, Teddy, Bruno and Cooper stay at the top spots for male dogs.
For the first time, the name Luna has reached the number one spot, despite the name not making any appearance in the 2021 Top 10 list. Interestingly, the name Una, is placed at the bottom of the list this year, showing that one letter can make all the difference.
Fashion brands have historically been a female puppy name staple; however, this year hasn’t been as kind to the luxury favourites. Fendi is a great example, with 48 puppies given the moniker in 2021, but it fell short with just seven in 2022 – a staggering 85% drop. The same can be said for Chanel, with only eight puppies this year, 71% less than the previous year.
Shelley Harrison, Brand and Communications Manager at Agria Pet Insurance, said: “It’s interesting to see the shift in pet names each year and the factors that appear to influence the names we choose for our furry friends. As we often see with baby names, there will always be ‘classic’ big names that appear on the list, however, it’s nice to see some fresh names working their way up the charts in 2022.”
