Pet shops asked for help over licensing response

Three pet trade associations are asking for help on where pet shops source their animals from, as they look at how to respond to proposed changes to licensing in England.
Pet Industry Federation, the Reptile & Exotic Pet Trade Association and the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association want pet shops to fill in a quick anonymous survey on whether or not they buy any of the animals they sell from private/hobby breeders (as opposed to commercial suppliers/wholesalers etc).
The three trade associations will use the information to inform the work they are doing to respond to Government proposals on how it will deal with animal establishment licensing (including pet shops) in England in the future.
“We want to build a picture of how many animals sold in pet shops mainly come from non-commercial breeders. It’s likely that different parts of the trade have different experiences so we’d like as many pet shops, reptile and aquatic shops to fill in this anonymous survey – even if it’s only to tell us they don’t get the species they sell from private sources,” explained REPTA’s Chris Newman.
