£40k damage caused to flooded pet store

A pet store in Tring, Hertfordshire, is hoping to open again soon after it was forced to temporarily close due to flooding.
A burst water pipe in a flat above Gosford Pets in the High Street left the shop more than seven inches deep in water, after it collapsed the ceiling and fell to the shop below.
Luckily no pets were present in the store in the overnight drenching but it’s particularly unfortunate for owner Lauren Saunders, who only became the owner back in November.
Lauren, who runs the shop with her sister Chloe, told her local newspaper, The Gazette: “We left the store on a Thursday evening and came back at 8.30am the next morning and there were lots of fire engines outside.
“We were about seven inches deep in water, and the firemen couldn’t believe that it hadn’t caught fire because of all the electrics we have in the store.
“We went in and everything was ruined. We’ve had insurance people in and they have written everything off.”
Lauren estimates that there has been up to £40,000 worth of damage due to the flood, but luckily the shop is covered by its insurance.
Now she’s keen to let customers know the store is going nowhere, and will be back in business shortly.
She said: “We have to get a completely new shop. But the builders we’ve spoken to think they can turn it around quite quickly.
“So hopefully we shouldn’t be closed for more than another two or three weeks.
“It’s been a bit of a nightmare having only become the owners in November.
“But everyone in Tring has been so supportive."
