Pet shop set to close after 53 years

Exeter's oldest pet shop will close on Christmas Eve after 53 years trading.

Janice Buckland, owner of Exeter Pet & Garden, said the time was right to shut the legendary store following the death of her husband last year.

Having opened the store in 1963, David Buckland built up a loyal customer base specialising in traditional pet supplies and animals including tropical fish, parrots and other exotic birds.

David and Janice ran the shop together for 34 years before David's death at the age of 74 in 2017.

"Sadly the time is now right to close the shop," Janice told the Devon Live website.

"It's been a wonderful experience and I will miss it.

"Being able to work alongside animals every day has been such a joy and the customers have been brilliant."
