New pet store owners set highest standards

A couple of animal lovers and friends opened the doors to their new pet shop last weekend and already it has proved to be a big hit with customers.

Lily-Rose Barnes and Cassy Hill launched Feathers & Tails in Wakefield and have been more than pleased with the response so far.

Lily said: “Both Cassy and myself have had a passion for reptiles and birds. We keep a variety at home, including snakes, tarantulas and birds.

“We have both worked with animals for a combined 15-plus years in both the veterinary industry and pet trade, and pride ourselves on staying up-to-date on scientific research, the community and reports produced.

“We want to set a new standard for selling reptiles and birds to make sure that the correct information, advice and husbandry is given to ensure the best quality of life for any animal, no matter its size or species.

“We are community oriented and have plans to support other local businesses in our shop. We are for the animals first and foremost, they will always be our first priority but we strive to create a friendly atmosphere, and will offer advice without judgement.

“We are also catering for general pets, especially dogs and cats, and we hold a large stock and reptiles and birds as well.”

Lily added that it was so great to see so many people supporting their small business on the official opening day.
