Companies celebrate winning PetQuip Awards

Pedigree Wholesale, we.pet, Henry & Co, Trinkety Paws, Mr Bug, Poorly Paws, HOWND, TropiClean, Discount Feeds and Mutneys Professional Pet Care were among the Gold winners at the prestigious PetQuip Awards held at Telford International Centre on Sunday...

Trinkety Paws won the New Starter Award, presented by Steve Driver of sponsor Pet Trade Innovations.

PetQuip Awards, held after the first day of PATS Telford on Sunday, hosted a record number of guests as the pet industry convened to recognise excellence and celebrate achievement.

The Awards cover Supplier, Retailer, Product, Export and Lifetime Achievement categories, with Gold, Silver and Highly Commended prizes for most categories.

The event, presented by Susan Fairley, PetQuip Trade Federation Manager, and Amanda Sizer Barrett MBE, Director General of the PetQuip association, included 12 Gold and 10 Silver awards, plus nine Highly Commended awards,

Also awarded was a special Lifetime Achievement Award for John Burns MBE, the founder of the UK’s first natural and chemical-free pet food company, Burns Pet Nutrition.

As John accepted his award from Amanda Sizer Barrett, he said “I’m overwhelmed. It’s such an honour to receive this accolade from PetQuip.”

To recognise the innovative companies exhibiting in the PATS Telford New Starter Zone, created in association with PetQuip trade association, the PetQuip Awards introduced a new category for this year, the New Starter Award. With so many creative and innovative entrepreneurs coming through into the pet industry, the competition was tight.

The Gold winner was Trinkety Paws, an accessories range whose hallmark is an array of beautiful colours, designed and made by the owner. The judges praised the business, which really stands out at shows with a lovely product.

Nadine Berger, Director of Trinkety Paws said: “I’m shocked and surprised to have won the New Starter Award. To be recognised in this prestigious way means a lot, and feels like all our hard work has paid off.”

The Silver award went to pet memorial rainbow bridge maker The British Glass Lady and Highly Commended to Oh So Precious, who also create pet memorials.

At the close of the event, Amanda Sizer Barrett commented: “The enjoyment evident on the faces of so many people from the industry at our event has made it all worthwhile. PetQuip is proud to recognise the hard work, innovation and teamwork demonstrated by our industry with these prestigious awards and it was great to celebrate with them at what was a sell-out occasion.

“In addition to seeing so many happy winners, it was really rewarding to witness everyone enjoying the fruits of their labours and the positive networking that took place between suppliers and buyers during the evening.”

Biggest-ever PATS Telford ends on a high

Quality – and quantity – were the themes of the bumper PATS Telford 2023 show, with exhibitors and visitors alike commenting on the amount of great business being done across the two days...

Quality – and quantity – were the themes of the bumper PATS Telford 2023 show, with exhibitors and visitors alike commenting on the amount of great business being done across the two days.

The second day started off as busy as the first with pet retailers and industry professionals flooding through the doors eager to see the array of innovations coming to market.

With more than 260 companies and brands showcasing hundreds of new products in all three halls of Telford International Centre, it proved to be a record-breaker.

There was also a lot of excitement around the news that PATS Telford 2024 would become a three-day show.

Exhibitors found they were busy from the start with a steady stream of inquiries. Rogz experienced lots of interest in its New Product Award-winning product range. Sallie-Ann Reed, the company’s managing director for UK and Ireland, said: “We’ve had an amazing show. It’s great to see so much support for the exhibition and I’ve been particularly pleased with the interest shown it our product ranges. PATS Telford creates a real buzz in the UK pet industry, and I’m 100% behind the move to a three-day show next year.”

Ancol Pet Products was another exhibitor welcoming the prospect of showcasing its products over three days from 2024 onwards, with director Simon Lane saying: “This year’s show has been brilliant. Our stand was busy from start to finish and there was a good mix of retailers and buyers showing interest in our ranges. I really love the idea of being able to have an extra day.

And Daniel Vander, of we.pet, said: “It’s been a very busy show for us. We’ve taken on some new customers and new orders and we really like the layout this year – another great show!”

Rita Sohal, relationship manager at Earthbound UK, commented: “We’ve had a really nice steady flow through the stand with a lot of new customers and people looking to restock or take on new business. A few customers told us the New Starter Zone was a draw for them and we think that has been a great attraction for those looking for something new and innovative.”

Cristina Gavilan, category manager at Company of Animals, added: “It’s been a great show – we’ve had a lot of visitors, a lot of interest and already a few orders. Now we are planning on a few innovations for the next one.”

Meanwhile, first-time exhibitor Oh So Precious was thrilled with its decision to take a stand with the company’s Helen Davies saying: “We’ve had a very busy first exhibition, which just goes to show that PATS is the place to be for the pet trade – it’s the absolute focal point.”

The show also got the thumbs-up from visitors, who flocked to the show on both days.

Toni Thornton of Four Oaks Country Store, who has been in the pet trade for over 30 years, said: “There’s a really good vibe here this year – everyone’s so upbeat and happy to be doing business. And there’s so much to see – we are going to struggle to get round in two days to be honest.”

Darren Porter, owner of Urmston Pet Shop in Greater Manchester, added: “I’ve really enjoyed the show. I like how PATS has separated out the New Starter Zone – especially near the free drinks – as it has massively helped to identify who is new and I think it’s also helped them all to feel they are in it together. I find they are dead keen to do business and meeting them at PATS is the only way to find out what’s new and up and coming.”

Olga Olesheva, of Happy Dug, travelled from Edinburgh and admitted it was well worth the trip. “I loved the layout of the exhibition, it’s so easy to navigate. And there’s so much to see – brilliant.”

With an increasing number of pet retailers introducing grooming salons into their stores, the PATS programme of demos, in association with For All DogKind, provided invaluable insights into this side of the business.

On both days of the show expert groomers gave demonstrations of specialist grooming techniques, as well as advice on how to grow your grooming business.

Laura Redstone, of For All DogKind, said: “It’s a great honour to have the opportunity to run the grooming demos for PATS. It’s really helped with our brand awareness – we’ve never had our logo so visible before – and we’ve loved the chance to speak to so many people and show what we can do.

“We are trying to raise awareness among groomers about the opportunity to expand their businesses via pet retailers – and for retailers to have an additional opportunity to get people through the door. Our exposure at PATS will really help with this.”

New eco-friendly product set to take market by storm

DotDotPet became the first-ever winner of the PATS New Starter Zone Innovation Award with its innovative Eco Towels...

DotDotPet became the first-ever winner of the PATS New Starter Zone Innovation Award with its innovative Eco Towels.

The new pet lifestyle and wellness brand, which launched at this year’s PATS Telford, created lots of interest on its stand with a range of shampoos, wellness treats and accessories.

And it was the Eco Towels that caught the attention of retail expert Clare Gavin, who judged the New Starter Zone Innovation Award.

Clare was so impressed with the excellent quality of entries that she found it a difficult decision to award just one overall winner.

“I particularly liked the fact that these towels are fully biodegradable and very cost effective. The lovely branding of the product will also give it presence on the retail shelf,” said Clare.

DotDotPet has designed the Eco Towels for both convenience and sustainability. They’re described as being highly absorbent, versatile, compact and portable.

DotDotPet General Director Harry Chapman said: “It is great to finally launch DotDotPet after months of hard work behind the scenes, getting the brand and products to meet our high standards. I am proud of our company’s values and product range, all of which have distinctive USPs. We are looking to shake up the pet wellness and lifestyle categories by creating a truly memorable brand.

“Winning this award is amazing so soon after its launch. I will definitely be using the accolade to promote the Eco Towels going forwards. PATS Telford has been a fantastic platform for DotDotPet and the award is the icing on the cake.”

Harry Chapman (above right), director of DotDotPet, receives the award from PATS Telford show director Gordon Thomas.

Clare highly commended Tangle for its innovative approach to recycling discarded fishing nets into pet products.

Alongside Steve Driver of Pet Trade Innvations, Clare gave an informative ‘fireside’ chat with New Starter Zone exhibitors at PATS Telford,

The PATS New Starter Zone was supported by trade association PetQuip alongside media partner Pet Product Marketing.

Future bright at Johnson’s with latest appointment

Johnson’s Veterinary Products has appointed Jonathon Gwynn to the role of Assistant Finance Manager, as it looks to the future and continuity of the family-owned business...

Johnson’s Veterinary Products has appointed Jonathon Gwynn to the role of Assistant Finance Manager, as it looks to the future and continuity of the family-owned business.

Recognising the importance of maintaining the family presence within the business, Jonathon who is the son of current Johnson’s Managing Director Paul Gwynn, was invited to join the business personally by former Chairman David Johnson, who sadly passed away in July 2022.

Johnson’s Managing Director Paul Gwynn commented: “For more than 100 years Johnson’s has been a family business and David was adamant we retain our independence. He understood our strength lay in recruiting the next generation, who would bring fresh thinking to the pet trade.

“Jonathon is the latest family member to join the business, following the recent arrivals of his brother Matthew and David’s grandson, Jack Franks. It is gratifying to build a family legacy, with the ambition, commitment and enthusiasm to drive Johnson’s forward for another century.

“Jonathon spent most of his school and university holidays working here at Johnson’s, which has ensured he has hit the ground running, despite the years away. It’s like welcoming colleagues back to work, rather than new personalities who need time to understand the Johnson’s way.

“Our determination to retain family at the heart of the business not only provides the continuity Johnson’s needs, but instils confidence in our customers that little will change in our support for the pet trade, from which they have benefitted since 1921.”

New Assistant Finance Manager, Jonathon Gwynn, commented: “Whilst I enjoyed my time at RBC Brewin Dolphin, one of the largest UK wealth management firms, this is an exciting time to join the family business as it develops and looks to the future.

“Johnson’s continues to grow and it’s imperative we maintain this momentum. Developing new products, delivering effective sales campaigns and adapting to meet the evolving needs of our valued customers, requires efficient processing and careful planning.

“I have always been committed to giving my best in every role but working with close family and colleagues in the supportive environment of Johnson’s has reinforced my determination to deliver on the faith shown in me.”

Ethnic Diversity Scholars meet for the first time

A meeting of IVC Evidensia’s Ethnic Diversity Scholars took place in September at the Birmingham Science Museum, uniting all scholarship recipients in person for the first time...

A meeting of IVC Evidensia’s Ethnic Diversity Scholars took place in September at the Birmingham Science Museum, uniting all scholarship recipients in person for the first time.

This comes after the third cohort of the scholarships have recently been awarded, ensuring that another group of students from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds were able to not only meet each other, but also several members of the senior IVC Evidensia leadership team.

Amanda Boag, Sarah Heath and Daniella Dos Santos were all able to meet our scholars, and Simon Smith, Group CEO, gave a welcome via video message.

Also in attendance were the IVC Evidensia Ethnic Diversity Scholarship Board, Scholars from the Vets Now programme and a stellar line-up of guest speakers including:

  • Professor Dan Chan - Royal Veterinary College
  • Dr Fabian Rivers - BVA Young Vet of the Year award winner
  • Dr Tshidi Gardner - Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Gurpawan Khalsa - Veterinary Student and founder of Emerald Enkindle

IVC Evidensia committed in 2020 to taking action to address the diversity imbalance within the veterinary profession by supporting a veterinary student scholarship and, within Vets Now, a veterinary nursing student scholarship.

The end goal of the scholarships is of course not only to support these scholars through university but to nurture and develop the professionals of tomorrow to have long and enjoyable careers.

Having a networking event in-person allows for the scholars to spend high-quality time together with each other, while making and building relationships for the future.

Mandisa Greene, Medical Director at Vets Now and organiser of the event, commented: “It was fantastic to have all of our scholars meet face-to-face for the first time and share their experiences, along with our new cohort who were just starting their scholarship journey.

“Hopefully this will be the first of many in-person events and I can’t wait to welcome more scholars into the programme and keep building our network in the future.”

Attending scholars also had a lot of positive feedback to give, especially when it came to the community that was being built and how enriching it had been to attend in-person and meet their peers in a networking capacity.

Saira, a second-year veterinary student, passed on her thanks and described what she took away from the event: “I just wanted to say another huge thank you to all the IVC Evidensia team for putting together such a wonderful event for us.

“I personally really enjoyed it and felt a connection with everyone there with our joint feelings in this profession. Well done for creating such an amazing network and community for us all and a safe space for us to feel comfortable in.”

Inayah, another second-year student, added how valuable it was to attend: “The networking event was extremely useful and I feel very privileged to have been a part of it. It was great to speak to vets and vet students who share the same struggles which might otherwise begin to feel like very isolated and individual experiences.

“The advice given by the panel was very eye-opening, and despite the vastly different routes each had taken, there were countless points to take away.

“Having the opportunity to speak to BAME vets individually about their experiences, and how they have and continue to overcome them, was invaluable.”

Bone Idol Academy is encouraging pet professionals to expand into the field of canine nutrition, and will now offer two professional courses, a Canine Nutrition Pro course, and an iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition qualification in the fascinating subject.

Via remote learning, the iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Canine Nutrition qualification, is perfect for existing professionals who want to expand their knowledge wherever they are based, and also new learners who want to explore a new career path.  Whilst the Canine Nutrition PRO course is aimed at those in the pet food industry, such as retail, to help understand the expanding options available, and how best to position them to their customers.

The popular academy already runs a well-respected state-of-the-art dog grooming school, and due to demand have expanded the scope of the courses to offer remote online learning in a range of new subjects.

Francesca Ford, qualified Canine Nutritionist and tutor at Bone Idol Academy, said: "The diploma course is perfect for pet professionals and those wishing to follow a new career path.

"Canine nutrition can be a minefield, with so many conflicting claims from brands. But this course enables learners to cut through all the noise, and learn the facts, which can then be used going forward in their career.

"Having a canine nutrition qualification, or completing the Canine Nutrition PRO course, can be a serious plus point for new customers who are struggling to navigate the world of nutrition themselves, and gives you another way to help your clients live their best lives."

2023 has been a transformative year for Bone Idol Academy, and the businesses launched a new website to include their online learning and education.

Francesca added: "The pet care industry is growing, and with more dog owners than ever, the demand for quality service and unbiased guidance has never been greater."

It takes huge talent to be highly successful in one skill in life...but three?

Yet that’s exactly what Leah Gardner has achieved – in Canine Agility, Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation, and very recently her incredibly realistic Art.

The latest news is that she has been invited to exhibit in three forthcoming art exhibitions!

The first exhibition runs October 6 to October 22 at The Factory, 21-31 Shacklewell Lane London E8 2DA and includes two of Leah’s pieces…

“400” - a piece about the endangered Sumatran tigers (there are only 400 left).

“Concrete jungle” - a piece about the wildlife’s world being encroached into by man.

The next two exhibitions are for “Sketch for survival” and take place in Edinburgh from 27th October and London OXO towers from 9th November and include …

“Down but not out” - a piece depicting the plight of the critically endangered African Wild Dog.

Leah says, “I started drawing properly in 2020 at the beginning of lockdown and was lucky enough to be runner up in the Into the Wild art competition and then won Pet Portrait Artist of the year 2021.”

Involvement in art has followed on from her other two major interests - Agility and Rescue and Rehabilitation.

Leah saw Agility at Olympia when she was seven years old and then ‘had to do it’!

CSJ’s and Leah’s own websites (details below) list numerous gold, silver and bronze medals including European Open and IMCA World Championships, both with dogs that she had saved from death’s door… Herbie (European Open silver) who was scared of everything and unable to be handled when she first got him and Theory (IMCA World Champion) who was saved at 2 weeks old from being drowned.

She has also vet nursed and worked closely in rescue with rehabilitation all her life, working for and raising funds for Many Tears Animal Rescue (registered charity No: 1192227).

Based in Wales but having dogs in foster homes throughout the UK, Many Tears Animal Rescue takes in and rehomes primarily ex-breeding dogs who are no longer required, those on "death row" in the pounds and those whose owners are no longer able to keep them - now homing in excess of 3,000 dogs a year.

CSJ say they are in awe at Leah’s art and proud of her dogs’ agility success plus heartwarming involvement with canine welfare whilst Leah says, “My dogs absolutely thrive on CSJ. They are fit and healthy and adore their food. The shine in their coat and comments from my vet about their great condition is testimony to how good CSJ is.”

A new pet store, which puts sustainability at the forefront of its business, has launched a ‘pet food amnesty’ with customers in a bid to help local food banks.

Chester & Ralphie’s, which opened in Norwich earlier this year, is asking customers and the wider local community to donate any unwanted, opened or unopened pet food so that it can be redistributed to the food banks.

Owners Amy Beevers and Jonny Bingham said: “We hope our initiative will ensure that unwanted pet food doesn’t go to waste, and that those in need of it most get the help they and their furry companions deserve.

“We all have pets that can suddenly decide to be fussy and turn their noses up at their food, we just don’t want that food going to waste.”

Chester & Ralphie’s launched the ‘pet food amnesty’ on its Instagram page with the message: “Got any extra pet food that your furry friend simply won’t touch? We’ve got a heart-warming solution.”

Owners can take their donations to the pet store or can have it collected.

Amy and Jonny worked in the hospitality sector before opening the new store in the Golden Triangle of Norwich.

“We had been planning the store for the last couple of years,” said Jonny. “We just wanted to wait for the right location to come available. Unthank Road is the perfect area for the business – the local community really seem to share our ethos around all things pet related.”

Amy and Jonny, who named the store after their two Cocker Spaniels, have been pleased with the response from customers so far. “It has been great, really positive.”

Pet lovers have rallied to support a local pet shop faced with the prospect of closure because of spiralling energy costs.

D&A Sanders Pet Care Specialists in the village of Yaxley near Peterborough saw its bills spiral, and owner David Sanders, known as ‘The Dogfather’, feared he would have to close his established shop.

As a result his granddaughter Shannon Sanders launched an online fundraising appeal and to date a total of £3,790 has been raised.

On her GoFundMe appeal, Shannon said: “My grandfather has been supporting the local village of Yaxley for nearly 50 years as a well-established shop owner.

“However, the recent rise in prices, electric bills (the shop’s electric bill used to be £3,500 a year and it's now estimated at £10,619) has basically left the shop struggling to make ends meet.

“My grandfather has been a friend, if not family, to many people in the village and is too proud to ask for help. However, I am not.

“This man loves this village and loves his little pet shop, and many customers do. This family run business has had three generations serving the people of Yaxley and we are asking for your help, if you can give.

“As many people have noticed, the shop simply isn't stocking the items it used to, due to the crippling price increases.

“My aim is to help raise this money to help get our foot back in the door and return to the once great shop we were.”

“So please, if you can, help us save D&A Sanders Pet Care Specialists.”

John James: Celebrating 50 years in the pet industry

After 50 years working in the pet industry John James still loves to be involved...

John discussing product ranges with son Saul.

After 50 years working in the pet industry John James still loves to be involved.

John has taken a step back from his company James and Steel in recent years after suffering a stroke but he still likes to feel part of the international pet world.

“I’m part time now as I get Saturdays off,” said John. “It hasn’t been easy letting go but my children are good at what they do and have the same work ethic as me. They are the future.”

The business of James and Steel is a family-run affair involving wife Judy, sons Jason and Saul, daughter Emma, son-in-law Martin and daughter-in-law Miranda. In fact, the Steel part of the company name comes from Emma’s married name.

Despite his stroke John still gets about and enjoys visiting customers. He loves the industry and particularly the people. He doesn’t drive anymore, travelling everywhere by train and bus, taking his trusty suitcase with him. He is often asked ‘Going somewhere nice?’ He will always carry spare ‘Bam’ cat products with him and gives away samples to anyone with a cat carrier.

So how did it all begin?

John's first job, after being expelled from school for being a disruptive influence, was in the office of the Co-op in Slough. But his first business venture was at the ripe old age of 9 when he collected used newspapers on a Saturday morning on his trolley. After tying them in nice tidy bundles he sold them to local shops. This was at a time when everything you bought – from fish and chips to ironmongery – came wrapped in newspaper. John describes it as being a very early recycling business.

At the age of 19 he became the youngest salesman to work for Continental Tyres.  He went for an interview even though he had failed his driving test and was not re-taking it for another two weeks. The interviewer appreciated his bottle, applying as a sales rep for the South-West area when he hadn't got a licence, so he was employed on the proviso that he passed.

In 1973 he moved to Osmond and Osmond, a family wholesaler who sold pet products, as a sales agent. In the early 80s he left to start his own business, James Marketing. He and wife Judy have always had an abiding love of dogs and he had a belief that he could do a better job than other people that were selling in the industry.  So, with £3k savings and the help and support of Judy, they started selling collars and leads, which John would sell and Judy would pick, pack and ship from their garden shed, handwriting the invoices as she went, in addition to making their own range of knitted dog jumpers. This was no mean feat as they were also bringing up four young children.

They then started using a larger shed in son Jason’s garden, which also brought him into the business. Five months later they moved to their first industrial unit. Incidentally, Jason sold the shed but John says he’s never seen the money for it!

They started trading fat balls in their first warehouse but couldn't afford a pump truck, let alone a forklift so another of his sons, Saul, had to handball everything from the delivery trucks. This was after walking miles to the warehouse as he didn't have a car at the time.

John received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 PetQuip Awards.

The first James & Steel product was the Universal car lead, made in Taiwan and sourced by John and Judy when visiting the factory at the very start. The Taiwanese staff kept running up and down to the factory floor, adapting the product to John and Judy's specifications and their best-selling product was born.  It is still a major selling product today.

Their business took off straight away and John will say to anyone, it is testament to the strength and support of Judy plus everyone in the family working with him that makes their business the success it is today. They now have hundreds of bestselling lines and one of the most successful Christmas ranges for pets, available exclusively to the pet specialist sector.

His mantra would be: always try to be honest in everything you do. John can walk into any exhibition in the world and he has the respect of the local pet trade. He has no regrets, always looks forward, and doesn’t dwell on mistakes. He may wish they had done some things differently but that's life.

If he had any advice to any budding entrepreneurs it would be: “Keep your feet on the floor, remember where you’ve come from, don’t talk big and make sure you are thinking of the customer first. That way you will prosper.”

The final words are for Judy, the strength behind the partnership.

“Without her I wouldn’t be where I am today, brilliant as I am,” said John. “My success has always been as a result of the love and support I’ve received from my wife and family.”

Visit the James & Steel stand (D64) at PATS Telford and congratulate John on his 50 years in the business.

Mr Bug recognised for ‘insect protein’ farming commitment

Mr Bug maintained its sustainable momentum in October by winning Pet Quip Gold in the blue riband Green & Organic category, an industry award that further underpins Mr Bug’s staunch commitment to eco-friendly farming practices and the wider circular economy.

“Awards are an unrivalled means for smaller start-ups like Mr Bug to explain to the wider pet food fraternity what we’re up to and having already secured Nourish Good (ingredient integrity), A Blue Patch rosette + a Global Good gong (sustainable thinking) PLUS a Good Shopping Ethical accreditation, it’s clear to see that Mr Bug’s compass is clearly set at championing not only nutritious insect protein (low in saturated fat mealworms) but a lighter carbon footprint Vs clunky traditional farming.,” said the company’s Conal Cunningham.

The ‘big vision’ of eco-efficient vertical farming had sat in Conal’s head ever since he returned to his Devon roots back in 2020, but thanks to a beer-fuelled strategy meeting with great friend Paul Walton in their local pub, the UK’s first rural mealworm farm became a reality; helped in no small part by a generous, government-backed Innovate grant enabled him to establish a leading edge, vertically stacked mealworm farm operation

Vertically-stacked insect farms require significantly less land (10th) and less water (1/4th) than a traditional cattle farm and have a significant reduced impact on the wider environment (10th).

With a 4-strong insect protein dog-treats range launched in late 22 and a superfood seasoning shaker launched this Summer, Mr Bug is well placed to expand its indie pet store and garden centre presence whilst doing everything it can to secure meaningful trials and listings within those nationwide petfood retailers truly committed to reducing their carbon footprint.

Pawer Water, a ground-breaking canine wellness supplement, which aims to optimise overall well-being for dogs by transforming the way that they hydrate, went down a storm at PATS Telford.

Nathalie Ohana. founder of Pawer Water, said: “PATS has been a valuable way to meet a vast range of buyers from independent retailers to big national players. We were overwhelmed by the positive welcoming from the entire industry!

“From dog groomers, dog walkers, dog behavioural therapists, to independent retailers all the way to fellow dog food brand owners, Pawer Water received an amazing response.  This reinforced our conviction that the pet industry is evolving and that Wellness and Innovation is highly recognised in the industry!

“PATS was also a great place to announce the launch of our new line of products, and helped us get pre-orders in. Last but not least, it has been a great way to connect with peers who share the same values and mission as Pawer Water, for exciting collaboration."

Water plays a critical role in maintaining a dog's health, but sometimes our furry companions don't drink enough to stay properly hydrated. Dehydration can lead to a range of issues, including lethargy, decreased organ function, and other serious health complications. Pawer Water addresses this concern by providing a premium supplement designed to enhance the hydration process and promote optimal wellness.

Pawer Water's formula is carefully crafted with a range of “pawerful” ingredients, specifically chosen to support canine hydration and wellness needs. This innovative blend includes electrolytes (potassium & sodium) to replenish essential minerals lost during exercise or hot weather, collagen & hyaluronic acid to support bones, joints and skin, as well as vitamins C & E and antioxidants (grapeseed extract) to support the immune system and promote overall vitality. Each ingredient is meticulously selected to ensure maximum efficacy and safety.

Pawer Water is easy to incorporate into a dog's routine. Simply add the supplement to their regular drinking water. Its delicious natural chicken broth flavour is specially crafted to appeal to dogs' palates, encouraging them to drink more water. With Pawer Water, pet owners can have peace of mind knowing their furry friends are boosting the hydration they need to thrive.

Pawer Water has already been recognised by the pet industry having made the finals of both the PetQuip and PIF Awards for new product innovation.

Furr Boost’s new varieties catch the eye of retailers

Furr Boost launched four new varieties of its smoothie drink at PATS Telford, where the brand caught the eye of major stockists in the UK and overseas.

Louise Toal, founder and creator of Furr Boost, said: “We had a jammed packed stand for the two days of the show, with old customers visiting the stand to extend into the new flavours and new customers who wanted to buy into the Furr Boost product range for the first time.

“The range has been extended to give better choice on proteins, with the Vegan Plant Based product being the ‘go to’ product for dogs with protein allergies.

“We saw uplift at the beginning of the year as the product was being used as a topper to encourage dogs to eat their food. Due to the price increases in dog food, customers were a little more reluctant to switch food straight away when the dog became picky.

“We have also since seen uplift in sales with the boom in enrichment toys over the summer, from the likes of Lickimat and Soda Pup who are creating quirky and interesting products and retailers are keen to keep up with this trend. Furr Boost can be poured into these to keep any pooch satisfied and occupied.

“Due to the flexibility of Furr Boost and its applications, it ticks all the boxes for dog owners as it is natural, functional and hydrating and can be served frozen, slightly warmed or straight out of the carton.

“At PATS we met a lot of new customers who had either seen the product over social media or in the press, or have received requests from their customers to stock the range.  At PATS our products also attracted the likes of Aldi UK, Pets Corner and B&Q.

“Furr Boost is shortly to launch in Pets at Home where Furr Boost will launch with the Beef flavour in store and then on line with the Chicken, Pork and Beef flavour. We also met up with our wholesale distributor, Pedigree Wholesale and existing customer, Viovet

“Enquiries also came in for Japan and Europe, with Furr Boost starting to export to Australia and New Zealand where the product will be trialled in Bunnings, with a view to launching in Pet Range, Coles and Woolworths next year.”

Following the show, Furr Boost HQ has been busy fulfilling all the orders that were taken over the two days, as well as following up on new leads and developing new relationships.

The Dog-G8 Company, from Horsham, which appeared on BBC One’s Dragons' Den and was offered investment by Deborah Meaden and Sara Davies, has received a Silver Award at the PetQuip Awards.

The range of highly versatile, concertina gates that aid dog owners with training, prevent dogs from escaping, and reduce the potential risk of an attack on postal and delivery workers coming to the house . They are also extremely useful at this time of year as we approach Halloween and Bonfire Night when dogs can get spooked by trick and treaters and fireworks, and can run out of the door and sadly on occasions, lead to fatalities on the road.

Commenting on the accolade, founder Peter Maxted said: “We are absolutely delighted to have made the finals of the PIF Innovation Award and the PetQuip Awards this year and to win a Silver Award with this being the first time we have entered, is the icing on the cake. We are very much a family business and it was great that my son Chris who is a Director in the firm together with his girlfriend, Harriet Roberts who looks after our social media, were able to collect the award on behalf of The Dog G8 Company.”
