Four colleagues at Burgess Pet Care are preparing to take on a challenging 100km relay run across North and East Yorkshire to raise money for mental health charity Andy’s Man Club.  

On Friday the 22nd of May, engineers Luke Newbigging, Josh Hammond and Hayden Campbell, alongside shift manager Alex Malukovs, will each complete 25km of the route.  

Starting at Burgess’ original mill in Thornton-le-Dale on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors national park, the route will then follow through the back roads and rural terrain of the countryside, finishing at Burgess HQ, Cherry Tree Mill in Goole. 

The first runner will set off at 5am and the team will split the route into four demanding relays, covering the equivalent of just over half a marathon each. The group have an ambition aim to complete the relay within 10 hours.   

The relay will be supported by two follow cars, with colleagues documenting the challenge throughout the day via photos and video, as well as a wider fundraising push across LinkedIn. Donations raised from the run will go directly towards supporting the charities network of mental health support groups nationwide.

Andy’s Man Club runs free mental health support groups for men across the UK, creating safe, non‑judgemental spaces where men can talk openly. Focused on breaking stigma and encouraging early support, the charity struck a chord with colleagues when they recently delivered a talk at the business which is why it was selected as Burgess Pet Care’s chosen charity of the year.  

In addition to the run, the team will also be taking part in other fundraising initiatives throughout the year including bake offs, cycling challenges and a darts marathon. Through this activity, Burgess has committed to raising more than £6300, to beat the total raised for charity last year.
