Pet shop vows to stay open despite animal welfare accusations
A pet shop owner in Greater Manchester has vowed to stay open despite an online campaign calling for its closure on animal welfare grounds.
Radcliffe Pets Ltd was visited by Bury Council officers, who carried out an inspection of the premises and found the store to be compliant under the terms of its licence.
Local newspaper, the Radcliffe Times, reported that a visit was undertaken by the RSPCA following a referral by Greater Manchester Police and again no issues were found.
Owner Jonathan Beetson is quoted as saying: “My shop is not closing. It is open for business.”
A petition to ‘Close Radcliffe Pets’ has been signed by more than 88,000 people. Hundreds of comments have also been shared on social media, with allegations made about the treatment of animals.
