Rabbit Awareness Week 2016 dates announced

The organisers of Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) are calling on veterinary practices and the pet industry to hop on board its national campaign on June 18th-26th to raise awareness of the importance of rabbit companionship.

The ‘Buddies For Bunnies’ theme for this summer’s RAW event – which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year – will highlight the fact that rabbits are a social species and usually prefer to live with another friendly rabbit. RAW hopes to encourage owners of single rabbits to find a suitable friend for their pet and would like to see an increase in the number of owners re-homing rabbits from welfare centres.

Led by one of the UK’s leading pet food manufacturers, Burgess Pet Care – alongside the RSPCA, Wood Green Animal Shelters, Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund, Panacur Rabbit, Blue Cross and PDSA – last year’s RAW campaign reached an audience of over 1 million rabbit owners and put rabbit welfare firmly on the agenda.

Rabbit Awareness Week already supports the rabbit care provided by over 4000 UK vet practices and this year wants to see more rescue centres, pet retailers and schools pledge their support to the 2016 #BuddiesForBunnies campaign.

“RAW is a fun, educational week of activities and events with a serious aim, and is the only campaign of its kind,” says Burgess Pet Care brand manager Rehana Kausar. “This year, we’d like to show how rabbits, like us, are social animals and need to live with another friendly rabbit in order to help keep them happy. We’re passionate about highlighting this issue to pet owners and hope that the veterinary and pet industries will give us a helping paw in the process.”
