COYA launches in independent retailer channel

New freeze-dried raw pet food company COYA Pet has launched its innovative products in the established family-run Cookes Pet Supplies business across its three stores in South Yorkshire – Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.

Cookes’ managing director Andrew Cooke (pictured above left with COYA founder Peter Roy) said: “It’s great to be part of a new era for raw feeding.

“We continue to do very well with frozen raw – consumers love feeding it. But it’s not for everyone and I believe that the future for the next stage of growth in raw feeding very much lies with freeze-dried raw.

“With COYA we have found a brand that understands our market really well. We’ve worked with the team in the past and they have always delivered excellent products, value and service.”

COYA Pet was unveiled to the pet industry at PATS Sandown in March, with the goal of making raw feeding more accessible and convenient for pet owners and retailers.

The company took its inspiration from the US market and developed a product range, made in the UK, that puts both pet health and pet owner convenience first through freeze-drying technology.

Peter Roy, founder of COYA Pet, said: “When you think of pet speciality, you think of stores like Cookes Pet Supplies. The recent refit of its Sheffield outlet really puts it amongst the top stores in the country, so when we wanted to launch in the independent channel it was the perfect location.

“It was great fun setting up there and training the Cookes team. Fabulous Andrew let us switch off one of his freezers for the launch, which was great for consumer awareness, and it saved him a few quid in energy costs for a while!”
