Don’t let pets get fired up this fireworks season
|
Recent research into firework fears and noise sensitivities by Ceva Animal Health, manufacturer of ADAPTIL and FELIWAY, has revealed that over three-quarters of pet owners believe that their pets are frightened of fireworks, with nearly 90% of owners worried about how their pet would cope during the firework season.
Indeed, over 80% of those questioned stated that their pet’s anxiety means that they do not enjoy fireworks as much and would change their social life during the firework season to ensure that they do not leave their pet ‘home alone’ while fireworks are going off.
Despite their concerns, however, over a quarter of owners do not make preparations in their household to help prepare their pet for fireworks and over a third of those that do only encourage their pet to sleep in a den or hideaway a few days before the fireworks, which does not leave enough time for a pet to become accustomed to their new living arrangements.
“More than 40% of owners have sought advice on the preparations that can help their pets during the firework season, with nearly 20% seeking help from their pet shop or pet supermarket which is a fantastic opportunity for retailers to provide help and advice on the subject to enhance the retailer/customer bond,” comments Claire Russell, product manager for pheromones at Ceva Animal Health.
“By building a den for a dog and a hideaway for a cat a few weeks in advance, pets will have a safe place to retreat to when fireworks start. Plugging in an ADAPTIL or FELIWAY CLASSIC diffuser will increase the security and help create a calm environment. Confining two cats to a household while fireworks are going off may cause inter-cat aggression. FELIWAY FRIENDS can help reduce conflicts and aggression between housemate cats.”Ceva has launched a comprehensive new marketing pack to help educate and support customers with noise sensitive pets in the run up to the firework season. The new pack features leaflets, leaflet holders and posters. For further information on Ceva’s fireworks campaign please email customerservicesuk@ceva.com.
