Brits splash the cash on beauty treatment for pooches

A new survey by FURminator shows that it’s also important our dogs look the part, prompting the pet grooming experts to urge retailers to capitalise on this growing trend.

Half (50%) of Brits reveal they spend just as much on their dog’s holiday prep as they do their own and 1 in 10 owners will go the extra mile spending upwards of £150 – equating to one sixth of the average cost of a holiday for a third of Brits!.

And, it’s clear hair care is the main priority, as a third of owners reveal bathing, a blow dry and grooming are top of the list for their dog.

Stuart Simons, expert groomer at FURminator, comments: “It goes without saying that during the summer months, holidays are a huge priority for Brits and it’s great to see our pets aren’t forgotten. This presents a big opportunity for retailers to maximise the summer months and help owners give their furry friends a pampering fix before their getaway.

“Grooming is an important part of pet ownership as not only does it help to boost the bond between pet and parent but also ensures any dead hair is removed and natural oils are released from within the skin to improve coat health and shine.

"That said, it’s important to encourage owners to implement a regular grooming routine to ensure pets are always looking their best. Home grooming can be a really effective way of supporting pets’ health and wellbeing together with trips to local groomers.”
