Jail for armed robber who targeted pet shop

A 20-year-old man who threatened a female pet shopkeeper with a knife has been jailed.

Kieran Wait stormed into Central Pet Supplies at Chester Road market on Thursday, April 7, threatened Tina Simpson and demanded money.

Ms Simpson managed to fend off Wait, who fled the shop empty handed.

On Friday at Truro Crown Court, Wait, of Henver Road, Newquay, was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Inspector Dave Meredith, of Newquay police, said: "Armed robbery is a very serious offence and Newquay is a safer place with Mr Wait behind bars.

"The custodial sentence imposed by the court reflects the gravity of the offence committed."

He added: "I would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation."

Wait pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery.
