IVC Evidensia has appointed Stuart Garde as its new Head of GP Vet Development.

In this role, Stuart will lead the company’s pioneering GP Vet Futures programme and champion the diverse role of first opinion vets across its network of more than 1,000 practices. 

GP Vet Futures was set up in 2023 and is a unique career development programme that recognises the vital role GP vets play and aims to increase the skills and confidence of vets in key areas such as quality improvement, welfare, preventative healthcare, clinical treatment, nutrition and professional values.  

Entirely self-led, the programme has no exams, instead participants submit evidence of their learning through case studies and project work in the format of their choice. This highly personalised approach aims to be inclusive of those at all careers stages, experiences and abilities, and provides a tailored development framework. 

Stuart has most recently worked as a Hub Clinical Lead supporting vets in practices across the south coast of England. He said: “I am looking forward to joining the team at IVC Evidensia, supporting the expansion of GP Vet Futures and building on the great work that has already been done to champion GP vets. By ensuring they have varied and satisfying careers we will draw more people into the profession while providing the best possible patient journey.” 

Stuart takes over the position from IVC Evidensia’s retiring GP Vet Lead, Edward Davies. The GP Vet Futures programme was his brainchild and part of his efforts to shine the spotlight on the critical role GP vets play and ensure they have life-long, fulfilling careers. 

Edward said: “It has been a great privilege to have been involved in many exciting projects over the years, but helping drive and facilitate Quality Improvement and the evolution and embedding of the GP Vet Futures programme have been two projects that I am particularly proud of. Having made the decision to leave IVC Evidensia after 11 years, I am really excited and pleased to be leaving these projects in a position of strength. 

“GP Vet Futures underpins the potential of the GP vet, building community, recognition and confidence in vets of the future within the profession and the group. I am so pleased that this can be handed to such an enthusiastic and passionate individual such as Stuart and I wish him all the best and will watch these projects grow and succeed.”
