A new pesticide-free parasite solution for poultry, aviary birds and their environments has been launched by animal health specialists, Beaphar.
DIMETHIcare Mite Blocker spray can be used on chickens, aviary birds and their housing, and provides immediate parasite protection for birds and their environment. It is effective against all life-stages of red mites, lice, fleas, ticks and other parasites, providing a useful tool for bird-keepers seeking pesticide-free parasite control.
Red mite (dermanyssus gallinae) is a significant parasite affecting backyard chickens and aviary birds. The mites feed on the blood of birds, causing anaemia, stress and reduced egg-laying in poultry. It can also be involved in the transmission of zoonotic diseases such as salmonellosis and Lyme disease. Red mites can survive for several months without feeding, so once an infestation is established in bird housing, they can be difficult to eradicate.
The innovative formula of Beaphar DIMETHIcare Mite Blocker provides immediate protection against red mites and has been specially formulated to use on poultry, aviary birds, and their environment including chicken coops and cages, unlike most red mite sprays, which can only be used on birds’ housing.
Beaphar DIMETHIcare Mite Blocker offers bird owners an easy-to-use, pesticide-free solution that immobilises all life-stages of red mites. The dimethicone in the spray acts as a ‘sticky trap’, immobilising the parasites and preventing them from feeding, breeding or continuing their lifecycle.
Beaphar DIMETHIcare Mite Blocker also contains aloe vera to help nourish the skin and feathers, and comes in a pump action, low-noise, 500ml spray. It is suitable for use on poultry and aviary birds from 12 weeks old, as well as their housing, giving owners of chicken and aviary birds an effective solution for protecting against parasites without the use of pesticides.
Claire Edmunds, Beaphar Marketing Manager, said: “With pet shops being a top destination for poultry owners*, retailers can play a key role in supporting avian health by providing their customers with advice on health products and biosecurity. Adding DIMETHIcare Mite Blocker to their range means they can meet their customers’ evolving preference and need for pesticide-free parasite control for poultry and aviary birds.”
To help retailers make the most of this addition to their poultry and avian health range, Beaphar have developed a range of marketing materials including digital and social content.
