Despite being the youngest competitor seven-year-old Madison Card finished first at every British canicross race this season to become British Champion (School Age).
Her mother Danielle told sponsors CSJ: “Madison has been running since she was 3 to 4 and once she was older she started canicross with one of us but we soon realised we couldn’t keep up with her.
“Madison had amazing mentors in fellow canicrossers Chris Reade and Lucy Mathews who between them have helped her endlessly with training plans, encouragement and above all been there to race with her, as without them she wouldn’t be able to compete.”
This 2019/2020 season Madison is legally old enough to compete and has had an amazing first season…
Being the youngest competitor at the Trophee des Montagnes, Canix events, the BSSF and European Championship her results were 1st place at BSSF Thetford, BSSF Pembrey, Canix Box End, Canix Pembrey Summer, Canix Forest Dean, Canix Shipley, Canix Xmas, Canix Sence Valley, Canix Pembrey plus 10th in the European Championship and 6th in the Trophee Des Montagnes.
Bella the 2 year old Working Cocker Spaniel is Madison’s training dog as she can handle her by herself and Bronte the 4 year old English Pointer is her race dog … when attached with a speedy adult!
What more can Madison achieve? Well her family and CSJ have high hopes as waiting in the side-lines is Lilly the 8 months old German Pointer x Greyhound who is hopefully Madison’s future race dog!
