Animal lover who ran Bury pet shop celebrates 102nd birthday
Harry Makin, who ran a pet shop in Radcliffe, Bury, until he retired in his late 70s, has celebrated his 102nd birthday.
The Mayor of Bury Cllr. Michell Wiseman attended a party in Harry's honour at Hollybank Care Home in the Greater Manchester town.
Daughter Eunice Myatt said: “Dad has always been an animal lover. Him running the pet shop was such fun for us as children, I always had lots of animals at home as a youngster." "There are lots of people in the town who will know him. He also used to sell fishing equipment and bait. The shop was demolished after he retired. “Dad has been healthy for most of his life and I think it is because he always walked everywhere, he never drove. “He really enjoyed his get-together at the care home and looked very happy.”
