The Paws Lab has cemented its position as one of the most exciting young brands in the UK pet-care market with a standout performance at PATS.
What unfolded across the three days was more than just strong footfall or positive conversations, it was clear validation from retailers, groomers, industry leaders and international buyers that the brand’s science-led approach to daily pet hygiene is resonating powerfully.
Visitors quickly understood what sets The Paws Lab apart – a modern, science-led daily care range designed to help pet parents manage ears, eyes, teeth, skin and coat between grooming visits. The simplicity of the routine, the gentle formulations and the clear educational approach made the brand stand out in a crowded market.

The commercial outcomes from PATS were exceptional:
- Over 50 new leads generated, with several deals closed during the show
- A substantial pipeline of retailer, grooming and distribution conversations now underway
- Strong support and positive feedback from existing stockists who visited the stand
- High interest in the Dental Care Wipes, boosted by their finalist position for PIF New Product of the Year – Health & Hygiene
- Additional momentum from the brand’s campaign Healthy Dogs Start at Home, also a finalist for PIF Marketing Campaign of the Year
Prior to PATS, The Paws Lab had also secured new stockist deals with:
- Hounds on the Hill, Stamford
- SuperPetz, Royal Wharf, London
- Fido Pet Store, Clapham Common
- Snuffle Dog Café & Wine Bar, London
- Roar Pet Supplies, Team Valley Gateshead
For a self‑funded brand that launched into its first UK retail location only last year, this level of traction is remarkable. The Paws Lab has now grown organically into more than 40 stockists across the UK, driven entirely by founder-led education, demonstrations, word of mouth and genuine consumer demand.
Perhaps the most meaningful outcome was the reaction from respected industry professionals. Many took the time to visit the stand, hear the brand story and experience the products firsthand. Their feedback was consistently positive – reinforcing that The Paws Lab is not simply another pet product range, but a modern, credible and much‑needed solution for daily pet hygiene.

With growing consumer demand, patented technology, proven sell‑through and a rapidly expanding stockist network, The Paws Lab is now entering its next phase of growth. The brand offers retailers and grooming professionals a timely commercial opportunity:
- A distinctive, complementary range built around real daily needs
- Science-led formulations that outperform traditional silver products
- Modern presentation and clear routines that drive repeat purchase
- Strong professional credibility and a 4.8 Trustpilot rating
- A brand built on relationships, education and genuine customer trust

Zooomy recognised for Move Better, Live Better campaign

Zooomy, the veterinary-developed mobility brand redefining joint care for UK pets, has been named a finalist for Marketing Campaign of the Year at the PIF Awards 2026, taking place on 5 November at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Stoke-on-Trent.
The nomination recognises the success of its Move Better, Live Better campaign, which has transformed how senior dog mobility is understood and helped establish Zooomy as one of the UK’s fastest-growing pet health innovators.
Developed by veterinary surgeons Humphrey and Joanna Grimmett, Zooomy’s campaign combined scientific clarity, digital innovation and high impact social media activity to help owners better understand joint fluid, cartilage nutrition and the role of mega chain Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in comfort and mobility.
According to Humphrey, “older or inflamed joints can lose up to 90% of their natural HA, and replenishing these levels can improve mobility.”
The campaign also showcased Zooomy’s unique liquid mega chain HA supplement, manufactured via microbial fermentation to achieve chain lengths approaching one million Daltons which is the form used in clinical studies. Zooomy’s long chain Hyaluronic Acid formula replenishes depleted HA levels in joint fluid. The mega chain HA is produced via microbial fermentation, ensuring purity, consistency and suitability for pets with allergies or sensitivities.
The liquid is odourless and tasteless making it ideal for fussy eaters and is administered by a syringe to the mouth which avoids the battle with pills, powders and chews.
This scientific foundation became the core of Zooomy’s educational messaging, helping pet owners make informed decisions about joint care.
Zooomy’s Move Better, Live Better campaign delivered a bold, accessible educational style across social media, trade/consumer press and digital platforms. Content included bite sized mobility tips, senior dog exercise guidance, HA science explained simply, and vet led Q&A sessions. The brand also secured major features across leading publications.

The campaign integrated the Zooomy Mobility App, a free digital tool allowing owners to track stiffness, mobility changes and activity levels over time. This created a feedback loop that strengthened customer engagement and subscription retention.
Zooomy also launched a welfare led affiliate programme for dog professionals, offering commission, ready made marketing materials and direct access to veterinary co founder Humphrey Grimmett for suitability questions.
The campaign delivered outstanding results, including:
- 37% year-on-year sales growth (Jan–Sept 2026 vs 2025)
- 88% subscription revenue growth
- 18,000+ customers across Shopify and Amazon
- 53% repeat purchase rate
- 1,300+ reviews across Shopify and Amazon (4.8 and 4.5 average)
Humphrey added: “We are honoured to be recognised by the Pet Industry Federation. Our mission has always been to bring scientific clarity and genuine mobility support to pets who need it most. Being named a finalist is a testament to the thousands of owners, therapists and professionals who trust Zooomy to help their pets move better and live better.”
Zooomy will be exhibiting at Edition Dog Live 2026 this weekend from Saturday 17th to Sunday 18th October 2026 at Halls 1, 2 & 2A, NAEC Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry (CV8 2LG).

An online appeal has been launched to raise funds to help towards veterinary costs for a ‘pet shop’ dog that recently suffered a life-changing accident.
German Shepherd Rebel, the beloved shop dog at Dunscroft Pet Supplies in Doncaster, shattered his elbow in one leg and sustained damage to the other, leaving him in significant pain and unable to move about as he normally would.
The JustGiving appeal organised by Lisa Ross-McMann, hopes to raise £1,000 to help towards Rebel’s veterinary costs
Lisa wrote on the JustGiving page: “The cost of the urgent operations, treatment, and ongoing care is expected to reach around £10,000. As Rebel is well known and loved by many members within the Dunscroft and Stainforth community, Jo is doing everything she can to support his recovery, but this is a very difficult time and she cannot do it alone.
“We are asking for your support to help cover these essential veterinary costs. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference, and sharing this page would mean so much to us as well. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during this incredibly challenging time.”
The appeal has so far raised £410 – 41% of the £1,000 target – from 20 donations. The JustGiving page can be found by clicking here.

This convention is where we stop and look at that honestly: what the trade data tells us, what the rules are doing, and which businesses are getting it right. CSJ says “Fireworks and festive celebrations needn’t be bad news for dogs and their owners.”
With Bonfire night plus Xmas and New Year looming, it’s time to start sprinkling Calm Down! herbs on sensitive dogs’ food.
Symptoms of anguish caused to dogs by noise can be extreme panting, constant pacing, howling or barking, scraping the carpet or door, refusal to eat or drink, refusing to go outside, involuntary toileting and even running away ……. all causing owners to suffer along with their pets.
CSJ repeatedly hear about Calm Down’s benefits in helping previously inconsolable dogs cope with fireworks and other stressful situations such as car travel, being amongst other dogs, competition or shows. They say, “Here’s just one example …”
Brilliant. “We have been using CSJ’s herbs on all my dogs for a while, but had one Cocker who just didn’t seem to be settling the same as the others in times of stress. We’ve switched her onto Calm Down and within 2 weeks noticed a difference in her”.
Recommended by Behavioural Trainers and Vets - the gentle blend of Camomile, Lemon Balm, Vervain, Lime Flowers and Skullcap - Calm Down! comes in a 200g re-sealable foil pouch – it’s a simple and easy way to make life more bearable.

An Isle of Wight dog treat business is entering its next chapter with the launch of Worth - The Dog Bakery, the new name and identity for the business previously known as Happy Hound Artisan Bakery (HHAB).
Founded in January 2024, the family-run business has grown rapidly from its Island roots, building a network of more than 15 stockists across the Isle of Wight while also supplying businesses on the mainland, including hospitality venues in Cornwall.
Worth is run by mother and daughter Jan and Hannah Brookes, alongside co-owner Kerrie Reed and local businessman Mark Reed, who serves as a director of the company and brings his experience in business growth and development to the venture.
The new identity has been created to reflect the growth of the business while retaining the principles behind Happy Hound Artisan Bakery: carefully considered ingredients, handmade products and treats created with dogs at the heart of every decision.
That history is also carried through into the new branding. Bertie and Copper, who are an important part of the business’s story, continue to have a legacy within the Worth identity, ensuring the new brand still has a connection to the dogs and personalities that helped shape what came before.
Dogs remain very much at the centre of the family business today too. Bonnie and Biscuit, belonging to Jan and Hannah, and Margo, belonging to Mark and Kerrie, are part of everyday life behind Worth and continue the strong canine influence running through the business.
Its new tagline, ‘For dogs who are Worth more”, captures that approach and forms part of a wider refresh including new packaging, signage, staff clothing, displays and a new online home at Worthdogbakery.co.uk.

Worth specialises in handmade dog bakery products created using ingredients chosen for a purpose. The bakery range is grain free, nut free and made without preservatives, with chickpea flour used in place of traditional wheat flour.
The range includes biscuits, training treats, Woofles, doughnuts, Pupcorn, celebration cakes and pupcakes, alongside a separate selection of 100% natural dog treats.
The business has also invested heavily in the standards behind its products. Bakery items undergo analytical testing, documented food safety procedures are in place, and the company is fully insured for pet food manufacturing.
Worth isn’t just registered with Trading Standards, it is Trading Standards Approved, making it the only dog bakery on the Isle of Wight to hold this approval.
Co-owner Hannah Brookes said:“Happy Hound Artisan Bakery gave us an incredible foundation, but the business has grown so much since we started that we felt the brand needed to grow with it.
“Worth represents what we have always believed. Dogs are part of the family, and what we give them matters. We want our products to be fun and exciting, but there also needs to be thought behind what goes into them and why.
“It was really important to us that the new brand didn’t lose the heart and history of the business. Bertie and Copper will always be part of that story, while Bonnie, Biscuit and Margo are very much part of the Worth family today.
“We are incredibly proud to be an Isle of Wight business and, while we are excited to continue growing our wholesale network both on and off the Island, keeping that personal, handmade approach is really important to us.”
Director Mark Reed, who will bring his extensive experience in business development and growth to the next stage of the business, said: “Worth already has all the ingredients of a really exciting business: a strong product, a loyal customer base and a team with genuine passion for what they do.
“My role will be to help build on those foundations and bring some of my experience in developing and growing businesses to the venture. There is a significant opportunity to expand the Worth brand and its wholesale presence, but we want to do that in a considered way that protects the quality, personality and values that have made the business successful in the first place.”

The first public event for the business under the Worth name will take place at Robin Hill Adventure Park on 17 October 2026.
Worth will also be part of the Santa Paws Fayre on 19 December 2026, held in partnership with the RSPCA and Pawsitive IOW.
Alongside its expanding stockist network, customers can now explore the full range, find local stockists and shop online at Worthdogbakery.co.uk.

My Anxious Dog founder Sarah Jones has received a Highly Commended award in the Animal category of the BBC Make a Difference Awards for her work raising awareness of dogs who need space.
Sarah, who created the national #dogsinyellow awareness day and wider campaign, has spent more than a decade working to change public understanding of what it means when a dog wears yellow – with one simple message: if you see a dog in yellow, give them space.
What began with Sarah's own anxious Cocker Spaniel, Bella, has grown into a national awareness campaign supported by dog owners, trainers, pet professionals and organisations across the UK.
But behind #dogsinyellow is also an unusual marketing story.
When Sarah began developing yellow awareness products for dogs who needed space, she quickly recognised a fundamental challenge: she could create the best products possible, but they would only work if the person approaching the dog understood what yellow meant.
Rather than simply marketing the products, Sarah realised she needed to market the message behind them.
That thinking became #dogsinyellow.
What started as a way of educating the public about the meaning of yellow has grown into one of My Anxious Dog's most powerful marketing tools – creating a recognisable identity around the campaign while simultaneously raising awareness of an issue that affects dogs and their owners every day.

Sarah said: “I realised very early on that I wasn't just selling a yellow harness or lead slip. If somebody bought one from me but the person walking towards their dog didn't understand what the yellow meant, I hadn't really solved the problem.
“So the marketing had to be bigger than the product. I needed to get people who might never buy anything from My Anxious Dog to understand the message too.
“The person approaching Bella is just as important to the effectiveness of the yellow as the person who bought it. That's what makes #dogsinyellow quite different because my marketing has to reach beyond my customer.
“That completely changed the way I thought about marketing the business.”
Sarah established the first #dogsinyellow awareness day in 2021, held annually on 20 March, creating a focal point around which dog owners, pet professionals and businesses could share the message.
The distinctive yellow visuals, Bella's story, social media, educational resources, talks, podcasts and Yellow Space Zones at major dog shows have all helped build recognition of both the message and the campaign.
Following the first #dogsinyellow awareness day, Sarah conducted a survey of 1,000 owners of fearful dogs to understand the impact wearing yellow was having. The results found that 91% felt yellow had enhanced their walks, while 78% said it had made them feel more confident.
For Sarah, one of the most important measures of the campaign's success is that the message is increasingly being shared by organisations and professionals beyond My Anxious Dog's own audience.
“The really exciting part for me is when somebody talks about dogs in yellow and My Anxious Dog isn't necessarily at the centre of the conversation,” Sarah said.
“That means the message is travelling on its own – and ultimately that's what I wanted to achieve.
“Of course #dogsinyellow has become an incredibly powerful way of building awareness of My Anxious Dog, but it has done that by putting education first. The more people who understand yellow, the more useful yellow becomes for every dog and owner who needs it.”
The campaign has increasingly reached beyond the pet industry too, with organisations including the National Trust and The Crown Estate helping to communicate the message around dogs wearing yellow and the importance of giving them space.
Sarah believes there is an important lesson in the campaign for other independent businesses within the pet industry.
“Marketing doesn't always have to start with asking people to buy something,” she said. “Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is give people a reason to care about the problem you're trying to solve.”
The campaign now reaches hundreds of thousands of people through social media, educational resources, talks, events and collaborations, while #dogsinyellow has developed a community of owners who Sarah affectionately calls her “Yellow Army”.
Sarah has also developed resources specifically to help pet professionals spread the message, including the My Anxious Dog Professional Partner Pack, providing educational materials that can be used with clients and within pet businesses.
The campaign's Yellow Space Zones have brought the same principle into busy dog events, creating dedicated areas where dogs and their people can step away from the crowds and decompress.
For Sarah, however, the recent BBC recognition ultimately comes back to Bella, now 14, whose experiences inspired everything that followed.
“Bella is the reason My Anxious Dog exists,” Sarah said. “What started with me simply trying to make life a little easier for my own dog has become something much bigger than I ever imagined.
“I want people to feel confident using yellow and to feel proud that they are standing up for what their dog needs.
“But my ultimate goal has always remained the same – that one day, wherever you are, if you see a dog in yellow, you will automatically know to give them space.”

Burgess launches white label offering for independents

Burgess Pet Care has launched a white label pet food proposition, enabling the Yorkshire-based company to strengthen relationships with independent retailers, reach more value-conscious shoppers, and generate additional sales volume...

Burgess Pet Care has launched a white label pet food proposition, enabling the Yorkshire-based company to strengthen relationships with independent retailers, reach more value-conscious shoppers, and generate additional sales volume.
The new range, which includes a 12.5kg value dry dog food and a 10kg value dry cat food, has been developed specifically for the direct retailer channel, including larger independent pet shops and agricultural stores. Retailers will be able to add their own logo to the products, creating an own-brand proposition for their customers.
The range has been developed in response to Burgess’ insight from independent retailers that many are seeking a more affordable white label pet food option, with existing offers in the market sitting at a less accessible price point.
The proposition is designed to complement Burgess’ existing branded products, whilst helping independent retailers compete with own label food already available in the market. It also forms part of the company’s plans to grow its direct retailer network.
Suzanne Moyes, Deputy Managing Director and in-house vet at Burgess Pet Care, said: “Independent retailers are incredibly important to the pet care market, and we know that offering customers genuine value for money continues to be a key priority.
“Our new white label range has been developed to give retailers another way to meet that need, whilst helping them protect margin, strengthen customer loyalty and build a distinctive proposition of their own."
Burgess Pet Care research found that 77% of shoppers want to support independent retail, with value for money highlighted as one of the key drivers. The new proposition aims to help retailers respond to this demand by offering competitively priced products that support margin growth and encourage customers to return to their store.

Award-winning pet retailer Jollyes Pets is due to open the doors to its latest store in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, at Oak Tree Centre, Jubilee Way South, NG18 3RT, tomorrow (Friday).
Proud to be the UK’s only pet specialist discounter, Jollyes Pets is bringing its commitment to affordable pet care to Mansfield, helping local owners keep the cost of caring for their pets down while household budgets remain under pressure.
To celebrate the opening, customers can get their ‘paws’ on 100 limited-edition goody bags and spin Jollyes’ iconic ‘Wheel of Fur-tune’ for a chance to win prizes, while Jollyes’ mascot, Jolly, will also be on hand to meet and greet visitors. The celebrations will continue on Saturday, with an entertainer in store to add to the family fun.
Marking the official opening, Deputy Mayor of Mansfield, Craig Whitby, will cut the red ribbon alongside some very special canine guests, Hazy, Juke, Ozzy, Jimmy and Buddy. The dogs will attend on behalf of the NFRSA, Jollyes Pets’ nationwide charity partner. Hazy previously served as a Forensic Evidence Detection Dog with Derbyshire Constabulary, while Juke and Ozzy both served with HMP Nottingham before retiring. Joining them will be active prison detection dogs Jimmy, an English Springer Spaniel, and Buddy, a fox red Labrador.
The new store has created 7 jobs for the local community and will be led by store manager Sam Newbold. Sam is looking forward to welcoming Mansfield’s pet owners to the new store and meeting their four-legged friends. A keen animal lover, they have two dogs, Bruce and Toby, and two rabbits, Flin and Albert.
Customers will be able to browse much-loved household names including Pedigree, Whiskas, Harringtons and Felix, alongside specialist pet brands such as Royal Canin and Hill’s, giving pet parents even more choice when it comes to finding the right products for their furry family members.
The store will also stock Jollyes Pets’ own-label ranges, including Lifestage for dogs and cats and Optimum Pet Health, offering big-brand quality at own-label prices and backed by a 100% money-back guarantee.
Pet parents can also expect an extensive selection of raw food, natural treats, alongside toys, treats and accessories – all under one roof.
Sam Newbold, Store Manager at Jollyes Pets Mansfield, said: “It’s brilliant to be bringing Jollyes Pets to Mansfield and giving local pet owners a new place to discover great value products for their four-legged, feathered and furry friends. Having spent 12 years managing stores, I’m excited to get to know our new team and customers. As a pet lover myself, with two dogs, Bruce and Toby, and two rabbits, Flin and Albert, I know how important our pets are to the family.
“We’re kicking things off with a fun-filled opening weekend, and we can’t wait to welcome the local community into the store, introduce everyone to our mascot Jolly and give visitors the chance to enjoy some freebies and prizes. We’re looking forward to becoming a familiar face in the local pet community.”
The opening will take Jollyes Pets to 129 stores across the UK, with 12 new locations opening since January and a further store set to open in Dunfermline on 5 November, before the end of the year. Over the past three years Jollyes has almost doubled the number of stores across the UK, becoming a clear challenger brand in the UK pet retail market.

Skills England has opened a consultation on the Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant occupational standard. It sets out the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected of people starting out in animal care roles, and it shapes the apprenticeships and training that prepare them.
The consultation opened on 12 October and closes on 25 October. It is open to employers, training providers and anyone who works with or supervises new entrants. Pet businesses are a big part of that group. Groomers, boarders, daycare providers, dog walkers and cattery owners all take on and train people at this level.
For businesses, the standard affects who is available to hire and how well prepared they are. The people who see the gaps between a qualification and the job are the ones doing the hiring and training. Responses from the sector help make sure the standard reflects real practice and keeps animal welfare at the centre.
Vicky Skinner, founder of the Animal Focused Alliance, sits on the Skills England expert panel and trailblazer panel and has taken part in recent discussions on the standard, including its revised end point assessment.
Vicky said: “Apprenticeships are a key route into the sector for young people so its vital the content and assessment of this standard truly reflects what employers need. We would encourage anyone who offers employment to young people to read through the proposal and add their comments.”
How to respond
The consultation is open on the Skills England website: https://skillsengland.education.gov.uk/surveys/

Dogs home announces £4.1 million refurbishment

Birmingham Dogs Home has announced the temporary closure of its Wolverhampton centre as it embarks on a major £4.1 million refurbishment, designed to transform the facility and significantly improve the experience and welfare of the dogs in its care.
The Wolverhampton centre closed its doors today (Monday 12th October) to commence with the refurbishment works, which are set to deliver a modern facility which improves operational flow, enhances visitor experience and creates a safer and calmer kennel environment to support improved rehabilitation and rehoming outcomes.
Supporting dogs and their owners across the region since 1892, the £4.1 million redevelopment represents one of the charity’s largest investments in their facilities and will help ensure the centre can continue supporting dogs for generations to come.
Set to relaunch in summer 2027 as Wolverhampton Dogs Home, the centre will remain part of the Birmingham Dogs Home family whilst being more clearly signposted as delivering the best possible welfare for dogs across the Black Country and South Staffordshire region.
Throughout the refurbishment, the charities commitment to stray, abandoned, and relinquished dogs will remain, with those currently in its care relocated to its Birmingham centre, whilst the Wolverhampton centre continues to operate in a reduced capacity to receive and support local stray dogs.
Sally Insley, Head of Income Generation at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “We have cared for thousands of stray, abandoned and relinquished dogs over the years, and we know every dog deserves the best possible care.
"We’re so grateful to our generous supporters who have made this investment possible. This redevelopment will enable us to give vulnerable dogs the very best chance of a brighter future and ensure that Wolverhampton Dogs Home is equipped to meet growing demand, deliver the highest standards of welfare for the most vulnerable dogs across Wolverhampton and the Black Country for generations to come.
“We look forward to commencing with the construction works later this month and to sharing our exciting plans for the centre with our supporters.”
