New Zealand firm brings venison blood dog range to UK

New Zealand pet nutrition company Totoniks has launched its venison blood range for dogs in the UK. The range is built on a simple but novel idea: taking a nutrient-dense part of the animal that has long been discarded and turning it into premium, everyday nutrition.

The UK line-up spans two formats — Blood Buds cold-pressed training treats and Totoniks Hydration canisters, a just-add-water daily food topper.

An overlooked resource, put to work

Every year, New Zealand's free-range deer farming industry produces venison for tables around the world. Blood, one of the most nutritious parts of the animal, has traditionally gone to waste. Totoniks set out to change that by capturing it, gently drying it into a fine powder, and making it the star ingredient across its range — a genuine nose-to-tail approach that prevents rich, bioavailable protein from being flushed into waterways untreated.

“Venison blood is one of nature's most complete proteins, and for years it has simply been thrown away,” said G Bowers, Founder of Totoniks. “That never sat right with us. If the animal has already been used, we owe it to use everything we responsibly can. What we knew is that this product isn't a compromise — it's genuinely better: lower in fat, rich in iron, and something dogs are DNA-wired to consume.”

Bowers sees the UK launch as the next chapter in a longer mission. “I've spent years bringing New Zealand's best natural pet brands home to UK dog owners — K9 Natural first, and now Totoniks,” he added. “British pet parents care deeply about provenance, natural ingredients and sustainability, and there's nowhere better than New Zealand to source all three. Totoniks is the next natural product I'm proud to bring to UK shelves.”

Why venison blood?

The decision to build a range around venison blood comes down to four things:

  • Sustainability. It upcycles a valuable by-product of an existing industry, reducing waste rather than farming new animals — more nutrition from the same footprint.
  • Nutrition. Venison blood is a low-fat, single-source novel protein that is naturally high in bioavailable haem iron and B vitamins — a clean option for dogs sensitive to common everyday proteins such as chicken and beef.
  • Provenance and safety. It is sourced from free-range New Zealand deer and made in New Zealand — a country free of BSE/TSE — with full traceability on every animal input.
  • Palatability. Dogs are carnivores by nature. Blood is one of the most powerful natural attractants there is, which makes the range exceptionally effective as a reward and mealtime topper — no artificial flavourings needed.

Blood Buds: cold-pressed training treats

Blood Buds are cold-pressed rather than freeze-dried or air-dried. Low-temperature processing preserves natural flavour and aroma while producing a firm, uniform, pocket-friendly treat that resists crumbling — ideal for training. Venison blood enriched with natural New Zealand ingredients, and that's it. Each 50g resealable pack suits dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes.

The UK range launches in three formulas: Daily Boost (venison blood and bone broth), Daily Glow (venison blood and Hoki lipids — protein and omega-3, EPA/DHA), and Daily Leap (venison blood, Hoki lipids and green-lipped mussel omega-3, EPA/DHA).

Hydration canisters: a daily food topper

The Totoniks canister range brings the same venison-blood nutrition to the food bowl. Each 40g canister holds a free-flowing powder blend that is simply sprinkled over food, then mixed with water to boost palatability, add moisture and encourage fussy dogs to eat. The UK line-up includes Daily Boost & Hydration, Performance & Hydration, Gut Health & Hydration and Hip, Joint & Hydration, each pairing venison blood with complementary New Zealand ingredients such as bone broth, green-lipped mussel and bentonite clay & Manuka Honey.

Availability

Totoniks Hydration canisters are available now to UK retailers and distributors. Totoniks Blood Buds training treats will be available from the end of October 2026. All products are made in New Zealand and are classified as complementary pet food.
