'Neighbour of the year' convicted of animal cruelty

A retired college lecturer who was honoured by the Queen for his voluntary work has been convicted of animal cruelty after he left his pet dog in his car for two hours during hot weather whilst he attended a community meeting.

 

David Kent, 63, was charged after police alerted by a worried member of the public found his Cockapoo rescue dog panting for breath and in a distressed state in the boot of the vehicle earlier in the summer.
