You’ll feel like you were there when you watch this video of the Pre-Continental Shepherd Trials 2014!

Now in its third year the Pre-Continentals had competitors from 10 countries at Hoogwoud, the Netherlands.

Peter Melling, who has also produced videos on CSJ’s website on sled-dog racing, agility and flyball competitions was on the spot to catch all the action.

The first scene shows the Mayor of Opmeer leading a flock of some of the 600 sheep that were used in the trial to the competition field and you’ll see many of the runs together with diagrams of the course and clear explanations of how points are scored.

Peter also interviewed competitors who discuss how they choose their dogs and tell stories about their entry into the sheepdog world and the journey top trialling.

Serge van der Zweep from Switzerland took the Championship with his dog Eve and amazingly also took second place with his dog Gary and in the video you will see Eve standing with her foot firmly on the winners trophy!

You don’t have to own a sheepdog to be interested…you just need an interest in dogs to appreciate the skill of these men, women and their dogs.
