Award success boosts innovative cat product

The innovative Cat Supplement Toppers from Karnlea made a real impact after launching as it won two prestigious industry awards in 2025, and has continued its successful journey so far this year.

The toppers were crowned a New Product Award winner at PATS in September in the Cat Food category, and then followed it up with honours in the Health & Hygiene section at the PIF Awards.

Karnlea’s founder Lara McCullough reveals what the accolades have done for the product.

What did it mean to win two prestigious awards?

It was a real honour to win both the new product categories we were entered in, both at PATS and the PIF Awards. We were hopeful, but not expectant in any way, as we knew we had a good range on our hands, especially given the growing market for innovative cat products. But we also knew we had some very stiff competition in the categories from other great products from amazing brands who we respect deeply. Winning felt like all the hard work we put in was worth it.

Do you think the awards have helped to elevate your winning product in terms of exposure?

Yes, I definitely do. It has brought the products to the attention of various retailers and chains that maybe would have not noticed us previously.

Have you used the awards to promote the product?

When you win not only one, but two awards for a product, it proves we're on the right track for innovation in the category. Cat is a growing category, and whilst some retailers are keen to get on board with it, others are still understandably slow to pick it up given tough times and unpredictability in the market at the moment. Winning the awards gives kudos to the range and helps garner confidence that there are big changes happening within the cat section of the market. That cat is becoming a strong, innovative category and no longer ‘mostly grocery’. The new generation of cat owners certainly do their research, and having the awards behind the brand cements us as trustworthy and capable.

Has the product been a success in terms of sales?
Yes, very much so. We're still at the very beginning of this wave of new innovative cat products, but we now have new listings in an online supermarket, and major chain launching in April/May and excitingly, it was what pushed us over the line with our US distributers, who have just sent their first delivery to Chewy.com and we who helped exhibit at Global Pet Expo in Orlando in March 2026.
