Independent pet shop triumphs in national competition

Marchmont Hardware – Hill Lord & Co Pet Supplies has been crowned the overall winner of the Paws in Spring campaign – a nationwide celebration of pet retailers, organised by the Pet Industry Federation.

The Scottish retailer impressed judges with its vibrant displays, local engagement, and clear passion for pets.

Two further pet retailers were also recognised for their excellent entries:

  • Second placeBrowns Natural Pet Store
  • Third placeBe More Bob

These top three entries will share an incredible £4,500 worth of donated product, generously contributed by a wide range of PIF member suppliers. A total of 19 manufacturers supported the campaign by donating prizes, including: Furr Boost, Cobbydog, On Tha Moor, The Holistic Hound, The Barking Bakery, VANDERPETS, Doodlebone, DotDotPet, HayPigs!®, No Fuss Fill / ANCOL, Trinkety Paws, Nutriment, Natural Instinct, Nova, Dibo, Aniforte, The Dog Butcher, Betty Miller, Karnlea, YDOLO and The Big Dog Bed Company.

Kayleigh Gordon, co-owner of Hill Lord & Co said: “Just over two years ago we took over Hill Lord & Co, a long-established independent pet shop in Edinburgh. This competition has allowed us to become more visible in the pet industry leading to more amazing opportunities. Winning will now allow us broaden our stock range to include things we didn’t have access to prior, providing a better experience for all our amazing customers.”

Nigel Baker, CEO of PIF, said: “This campaign has been a fantastic showcase for the dedication, creativity, and passion of independent pet retailers. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who took part, and especially to the incredible manufacturers who donated such a generous prize bundle.”

Paws in Spring is part of PIF’s wider work to champion the UK pet retail trade, which also includes its partnership in National Pet Shop Day on Saturday 12 July. Retailers are invited to get involved.
