Exciting and unmissable attractions at National Pet Show

With just a few days to go until the nation’s favourite pet show opens its doors in 2017 at ExCeL, London, excitement grows for animal lovers across Britain who await their favourite, fun-filled and furriest event of the year! National Pet Show reveals why it’s an event not to be missed…

Taking place on May 6-7, the ExCeL Centre London will play host to an array of animals, from household favourites including beloved dogs, cats and rabbits to the likes of stick insects, micro pigs and owls, enabling visitors at the show to get in touch with their wild side.

Here are 10 unmissable features to have on your radar at the show…

1.   Britain’s Got Animal Talent!
Hosted by TV wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, the star-studded SuperDogs Live show features a sensational opening by Britain’s Got Talent 2016 Finalists Lucy Heath and Trip Hazard, with a debut performance by Trip’s teeny tiny niece, Dizzy! Don’t miss more dazzling doggy acts too – Rachael Grylls and her Jack Russell Jessica will be demonstrating their recent Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Skips By A Dog and Person In a Minute’; Pippa Langhorne and her incredible singing pup Buddy from the BGT semi-finals in 2011; and Guinness World Record holder, Hagrid the Leonberger who adores sausages.

2.   All Creatures Great and Small…
From the cute and cuddly to the weird and wonderful, the National Pet Show is the perfect place to meet and learn about all your favourite pets from the animal kingdom – don’t miss the gorgeous Petpiggies micro pigs!

3.   Wag and Tone – Doggy Aerobics!
Watch out for demonstrations of the new fitness craze taking the animal world by storm! Using a series of simple, fun aerobic exercises in time to music, Wag and Tone keeps you and your pooch fit and healthy while improving the bond between dog and handler.

4.    Walk on the Wild Side for Wee Ones…
Two fun-filled teepee tents in the Tetra Kids Zone will host a variety of adorable critters, from cuddly pups to fluffy hamsters. Kids can get up close and personal with the animals and learn from experts about their different needs, as well as snuggling down on comfy beanbags to listen to animal storytelling and the chance to have their faces painted in a choice of amazing fish-themed characters.

5.   NEW Dogs with Jobs…
In addition to last year’s VIPs (Very Important Pooches), this year we welcome Hypo Hounds, diabetic alert assistance dogs with such sensitive noses they can detect a rise or fall in their owner’s blood sugars, preventing potentially life-threatening hypoglycaemic attacks. Incredible stuff.

6.   Hop into a Secret Garden!
Bunny hop over to Burgess Pet Care Small Furries Zone where the Runaround Secret Rabbit Garden is bigger and fluffier than ever before!  Feel the softest fur in the world at the CHINformative stand, see guinea pigs navigate through a complex trail of funnels and don’t leave the zone empty handed – visitors can make their own Willow Ball, a perfect present to take home to your pet!  Don’t miss The Yorkshire Vet’s Julian Norton who will be signing copies of his book.

7.   Paw-Fect Performances!
See how famous dogs that have graced the Silver Screen and our TVs at home are trained to perform, including the amazing pooches from programmes such as Doc Martin, Poldark, Midsomer Murders and Victoria. Star of Crufts 2017 Olly the Jack Russell will be joining in the fun too! Get your paw-tograph books out and ready for the meet and greets after each performance…

8.   Cat-ch us if You Can…
Kitty fans will have the chance to meet Maine Coons, Sphynx Cats, Mitted & Bi Colour Ragdolls, Siberians and more in the Hill’s Cat Zone, where a host of experts will share advice on choice of breed, care and training. An exciting new addition to the mix this year is the very rare French Chartreux.

9.   Therapy Horses
Meet KL Pony Therapy’s stunning American Miniature Horses in the Fluval Animal Zone. Everyone is familiar with dogs working in therapy but these horses love being petted, meeting new people and they bring a smile to the elderly living in care homes. Don’t miss our Pony Paddock for demos on grooming, tacking up and feeding our equine friends!

10. Competition alert!
Fantastic opportunities across the show to win free stuff!
