Just one week after his 12th birthday George Carter blazed a brilliant trail at the World Sled Dog Association Championships in Germany. He was the youngest competitor there!
His proud mum Mary told CSJ, “George did well - it was his first race in snow, his first time representing Scotland and his first international race.”
Coming 6th in the Sled 2 Dogs Junior 5,5km races against tough competition from countries including Poland, Austria, Russia, GBR, Italy, Germany and France was made even harder by the challenging weather experienced in Haidmuhle.
George and his brother Bob have sled dog racing in their blood … mum Mary and dad John are multiple Gold medalists and amongst numerous other accolades John is a WSA World Dryland Champion and Mary an IFSS World Champion and IFSS European Champion.
Home is The Bowland Trails in Blairgowrie where, apart from the sled dog training activities, their very popular Siberian Husky rides are now on offer – where people can take a ride as a passenger with a large team of huskies.
The family share their home with around 40 ‘Satanta’ Siberian Huskies plus Scandinavian hounds, farm collies, Maremma sheepdogs working as Stock Guardian dogs, a flock of registered Hebridean sheep, rescue hens, a Whitebred Shorthorn bull and the Glasclune Fold of Highland Cattle.
Phew! George was definitely ‘born to race’ and CSJ are looking forward to following his career as the story continues…
