Essex-based pet product importer and distributor Fadulla has sold its RepStyle, AquaSpectra and Garden Dreams brands and associated products to Peregrine Livefoods Ltd.
Peregrine is a well-established supplier in the pet market, specialising in reptile supplies, but says it is keen to expand its portfolio into aquatic and wild bird.
"The acquisition offers an exciting opportunity to Peregrine Livefoods," said sales and marketing director Chris Jones.
"We are now able to offer a wider range of reptile décor to our customers at more affordable prices. It also allows us to enter the aquatic and wild bird markets, a benefit to all Peregrine customers who already offer these products, but also for Peregrine to acquire new customers.
"We will continue to develop these brands and already have a pipeline of new products to bring to market in 2019. We’re looking forward to see the growth of these brands."
Existing Peregrine customers will be able to order any of the Repstyle, AquaSpectra or Garden Dreams products on their regular Peregrine orders. Customers who do not currently have an account with Peregrine will be asked to set one up, which will be subject to standard checks.

Poppy's Picnic founder Dylan Watkins appeared on the popular Channel 4 TV series Come Dine With Me on Tuesday and served up a dog's dinner to fellow contestants.
The three-course dinner*was an experience for the senses and comprised handcrafted, fresh recipes that are suitable for both humans and dogs. Dylan wanted to make the point dog food doesn’t have to be a mundane eating experience with dry kibble day-in, day-out.
Dylan said: “Sadly, over 50% of dogs in the UK are obese, and many are dying from cancer and diabetes. We know that highly processed food is a contributory factor in human health problems, and the same goes for dogs.
"This was a massive inspiration to me when I set up Poppy’s Picnic and why I used my appearance on Come Dine With Me to spread the word that fresh is best.”
For the show he teamed up with Emma Rutherford, a Functional Canine Dietary Consultant, who he met at a dog show, to appear on the programme and showcase that just like humans, dogs should eat fresh food too.
Dylan explained: “When a friend sent me the advert for the new series I knew it would be an excellent platform to encourage more dog owners to feed fresh, healthy meals. My partner Michael was mortified at the thought of appearing on TV, so when Emma volunteered to join me, I seized this mad opportunity.”
Fellow contestant Kelly Houghton said: “It’s definitely not what I was expecting from a sophisticated dinner party! However, having spent the week with Dylan and experiencing his love, passion and dedication to dogs first hand, I was sold.
"We are now the happy owners of our own miniature schnauzer, and having previously known nothing about dog food, there was no way I was going to be feeding her anything else.”
Dylan added: “My heart pounds every time I think about the filming. I needn’t have worried, as all was forgiven by my fellow contestants as both couples now feed their dogs fresh, raw food.
"By appearing on a nationally loved TV show such as Come Dine With Me, I knew that the diets and health of thousands of dogs could be improved.”

This year’s show attracted 1,993 visitors, which is a record in the show’s 11-year history. This compares with last year’s visitor numbers for the March date of 1,801 and represents an 11% increase year on year.
There was a great buzz throughout the Surrey and Esher Halls as buyers and exhibitors discussed the innovative stands and great new products on show, creating a surge of activity over two days of business at the Sandown Park venue in Esher, Surrey.
The show closed with visitors and exhibitors agreeing it had been a huge success, with the event delivering an unrivalled platform for the launch of hundreds of exciting pet product innovations.
The New Product Showcase, sponsored by pbwnews, was a busy area throughout the event, and retailers admitted they were spoiled for choice as they decided on which items to stock in their stores for the year ahead.
Exhibitors agreed the quality of visitors to their stands was exceptional, and there was a great degree of confidence being shown despite economic uncertainty caused by Brexit.
Grooming demonstrations and workshops returned to the Sandown exhibition after a two-year absence and they were a hive of activity throughout the show. The series of seminars also proved very popular with visitors.
Tom Neish, founder of Yora Pet Foods, said: “This has been my first ever trade show and I can’t quite take in the fabulous response to our trailblazing new dog food. We’ve had a really good mix of people coming on to the stand, which has been busy on both days of the event.”
Laura Redstone, For All DogKind, commented: “This show was important to us because it provided the ideal time and place to launch our new range of supplements, and we have been really pleased with the response – in fact it has been non-stop for us since the doors opened.”
It was a similar story for Aquamat Chiller, whose Alison Roberts said:
“We haven’t stopped since we arrived at the show and what’s more the interest has come from independent retailers, which is the market we were aiming at. The show has been amazing.”
More than 40 exhibitors were new to PATS Sandown and among them were Coucour, whose sales manager Jorge Aguilera said: “Congratulations to PATS. Your show is fantastic – we were just at a Paris exhibition a month ago and in comparison the organisation here is so smooth. We’ve had a very enjoyable two days.”
Paul Mercer, UK sales manager of Tropiclean Pet Products, added: “We’ve been very impressed with the outcome. The set-up was very straightforward, everything has worked well and it was great to see such a full house in terms of visitors.”
There was a strong international presence at the show, including wild bird care specialists Bon from Bulgaria. Petar Yordanov said: “It’s our first PATS show and we have been impressed with the quality of visitors. We wanted to raise awareness of our wild bird foods and treats and the reaction has been great.”
Peter Radonyi, from Hunagrian company TICKLESS, added: “I’ve been amazed at the quality of retailers and buyers attending PATS. It’s our first time at Sandown and we couldn’t be happier. It has been well worth the trip and we’ll certainly exhibit again.”
The mood amongst visitors was summed up by Tina Quest, a senior buyer at Redpaw Pet Supplies in Plymouth. She said: “This show has everything – a great selection of exciting new products and a wide variety of exhibitors. As retailers we are spoiled for choice. We have spent far too much money on new stock for our shop but the investment is well worthwhile. It has been a brilliant show.”
Jacqui Thompson, owner of Wag & Bone boutique, Aldborough, Suffolk, commented: “We’re opening up shop next month and it’s really important for us to be able to see, touch and feel the products we want to stock. Coming here has been great because ordering over the internet or the phone is just not the same.”
And Laura van der Wee, a buyer at Brick Kiln Garden Centre, Chichester, Sussex, said: “What a great show. We’re here looking for stock to add something to our repertoire – additional items that people don’t know they need until they see them – and we’ve had a few ideas. We come here to order all our new pet stock that will sell really well over the next few weeks and months.”
Organiser Gordon Thomas said: “We’re so pleased the move of dates to a Sunday and Monday in February has been a huge success. We love running this exhibition and it’s great to hear that exhibitors and visitors have experienced a brilliant show, demonstrating that PATS is the show for serious buyers of pet products.”

Rapidly expanding fish-based pet treats company Wild Ocean Omega3 Fish Snacks Ltd – trading as WOOFS – is now exporting to a number of countries overseas and is set to launch a number of new products in 2019.
WOOFS will also be taking a stand at Crufts (7-10 March at the NEC, Birmingham Hall 2 Stand 16) for the first time.
The company is one of the only few UK pet food companies to hold the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certificate, which means that all the fish that goes into the manufacture of the treats is from fully traceable and sustainable sources. It also confirms the WOOFS’ fishery has been independently assessed on its specific impacts to wild fish populations and the ecosystems surrounding the areas where the fish are caught.
The treats are packed full of Omega 3 and have many health benefits for dogs. In addition, WOOFS accesses all of the raw material used in its manufacturing bases, ensuring that the best quality fish is utilised in all of its current and future products.
WOOFS currently produce Cod Cookies, Cod Fingers, Cod Crunchers, Cod Cubes, Dried Sprats and Granola which are available in different sized packs and beautifully crafted kiln jars and are set to increase their treat range by introducing new products in 2019.
These are all currently in development. The company is also looking to develop a premium dry food and is working with leading pet nutritionist, Moddie Lambert to introduce a range of fish-based raw food recipes. WOOFS are also in a position to offer retailers high quality whole fresh frozen fish to cater for raw feeders.
WOOFS are now exporting to Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Poland and Saudi Arabia. as well as stocking independent retailers and major online retailers such as Ocado, Fetch and Amazon. The company is looking to work even closer with retailers in the UK and increase its presence in the show dog, breeder and veterinary markets.

Entries will be put through an initial screening test and the finalists will then be named before an independent judging panel sits down to choose the winners at the end of August.
The presentation of awards to the winners will be made at a special dinner on the evening of Sunday, September 22, after the first day of PATS Telford.

Different Dog provided live cookery demonstrations on its stand at PATS Sandown to show just how much care and quality goes into every batch.
Managing director Charlie Thurstan said: “Our aim is to turn conventional pet food upside down – what better way than a dog food cookery demonstration at a trade show. We’re excited to bring our tasty, nutritional product to a broader audience in the coming months.”
Different Dog worked with brand experience agency, The Brave Few, on the idea for a live cookery demonstation.
“We love working with start-ups who are doing things differently” said Maria Sze, of The Brave Few.
“The Different Dog team invited us to their kitchen and shared their ‘Cook for your Dog Night’. International Cat Care Welfare Award
International Cat Care will be choosing the winner of this award from its extensive membership base. The winner will be announced at the awards’ ceremony.
The judges have granted an award in special recognition of an individual’s lifetime commitment to animal welfare. The Outstanding Contribution to Animal Welfare Award is supported by Your Dog and Your Cat magazines and will be announced on the night of the awards.
The shortlist for each award was decided following a day of deliberations by a panel of esteemed judges chaired by retired veterinary surgeon, Chris Laurence MBE FRCVS. Chris has a wealth of experience in animal welfare; he is chairman of the Animal Welfare Foundation, the Canine and Feline Sector Group of the Animal Health and Welfare Board and BVBA (British Veterinary Behaviour Association) and before retiring he was chief veterinary officer at the RSPCA and veterinary director of Dogs Trust. He is also involved in a number of charities and is a trustee of the Pet Blood Bank and the Bella Moss Foundation.
Chair of the judging panel, Chris Laurence, says: “The variety and scope of the nominations never cease to amaze me and highlight how much extraordinary effort goes into improving animal welfare by a diverse but dedicated group of people. The variety of work undertaken by this year’s candidates covered almost every aspect of contact with animals imaginable and does so much to improve their lives. How many of them fit their level of effort into their lives continues to amaze and inspire the judges and makes shortlisting finalists and picking winners an ever more difficult task.”
Cuneyt Seckin, managing director of Ceva Animal Health, adds: “The Ceva Animal Welfare Awards go from strength-to-strength in both the quantity and quality of the nominations that we receive. Following its successful entry into the bespoke quality wild bird food market with the flagship Goldenball, Feldy has presented a new product range of natural Food Blocks for Poultry and Game.
The Poultry Block is manufactured in 1 kg blocks and 6 kg buckets whilst the Game Block is available in 6 kg buckets. The blocks are designed to supplement commercial feeds particularly for the small domestic egg producer whilst also satisfying the demand from larger commercial units.
The block is not only designed to provide concentrated nutrition but acts as occupational therapy for the birds thus helping in the quest to eliminate feather pecking by providing a useful distraction in its method of use.
The blocks are able to be ground fed or can be suspended to just above the height of the bird so that it feeds upwards through the hole which can be cut in the bottom of the bucket. The high oil content of the product allows the block to slowly slide down the bucket as it is consumed.
The design Holy Grail and unique appeal of the block is achieved by very careful selection of key ingredients which when fused together are attractive to the bird but stay solid in all weather conditions thus allowing a controlled release of the nutrition. Feldy recommend that the block is fed in conjunction with commercial layers feeds or wheat and this combination leading to increased egg yield, egg size and bird wellbeing.
The block content food profile is selected from 12 carefully chosen ingredients providing very high energy, protein and vitamins on demand. To enhance attraction and wellbeing the blocks contain 5 carefully chosen herbs and spices within the ingredients as well as an aniseed concentrate attractant sprayed on the exterior.

Seven major suppliers of British pet care products will be exhibiting their latest innovations in the British pavilion at Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida, next month (March 20-22).

Henry Wag (Booth 4972) is a first time exhibitor at Global Pet Expo. The company will be introducing its new range of microfibre dog drying coats which quickly wick water from a dog's fur to leave them fresh and dry. Also new will be a noodle glove towel that effectively removes dirt and water following muddy walks. Henry Wag will also be exhibiting new additions to its travel range. They are a Multimat travel rug to use at home, in the car or on location, and a Travel Snuggle bed for more adventurous travellers.
Law Print & Packaging (Booth 1458) will be showcasing its latest packaging innovations for pet food brands and manufacturers. The flexible packaging supplier has recently answered demand for more sustainable packaging materials, developing new 100 per cent recyclable options exclusively for the pet food sector. The team will be showcasing the newly launched BOPP Recyclable bags as well as PE/PE Mono Film pouches.
PetQuip (Booth 4970) is the International Trade Association of Pet Equipment Suppliers. The PetQuip team assists and promotes the development of international trade in the pet equipment sector, providing a catalyst for business contact between UK manufacturers, suppliers and international buyers. PetQuip has published the PetQuip Buyers’ Guide, which includes a directory of members’ product ranges, and copies will be available to all buyers visiting the PetQuip stand.
Rockster (Booth 4966) will be exhibiting its range of genuine life-enhancing superfood for dogs. Created originally to transform the health of a street dog rescued from Naples who rejected commercial pet food, Rockster has been hailed as ‘more than just food’. Using organic ingredients gently steamed from raw in the can, the scientifically formulated recipes include Fisherman’s Dream from Napoli, Duck a la Royale from Paris, Chicken Chantarella from St Moritz, and Sound of Game from Salzburg.

A survey by IAMS has revealed that over a quarter of women (28%) would rather spend Valentine’s Day with their cat than their partner because of the unconditional love they provide, together with boasting better cuddles.
And, for 38% of British cat owners, it’s the lack of arguments that’s the deciding factor. Probably why one third (28%) would even go as far as saying they love their cat more than their partner.
But our passion for pets doesn’t stop there. When it comes to our canine companions, puppy love has swept the nation as over one third (34%) of dog owners will pick their paw-fect pal over their other half with two thirds (58%) claiming they prefer their pup’s company! That is until the hint of a romantic dinner or promise of a present sways one third (29%) back to their human companion.
Regardless of this, with Brits spend a whopping £7.9bn each year on their feline friends and almost half (46%) of dog owners loving their pet so much they even want them involved in their wedding, the question is, do our pets fall as quickly for us as we do for them?
Cat behaviourist, Naomi Opalinska, explains that with felines, love is not instantaneous, “Humans can fall in love at first sight with their cats, but cats may take time to fall in love with their owner. Cats need to be nurtured so that they feel secure in their environment. It’s important to let your cat get to know you in their own time. How they show you love will also very much depend on their unique personality and how well they’ve been socialised from a kitten.”
When it comes to our canine companions, COAPE Behaviour Specialist Mandy Daveridge adds, “Dogs are quite forthcoming when it comes to showing their love. They’ll want to spend time with someone they are fond of, will get very excited when they see them and look for ways to initiate play.
"With puppies, they will look for a replacement mother who can feed and care for them and that’s why you’ll notice your new arrival following you around the house a lot.
"With rescue dogs, they’re likely to be much more nervous as their experiences may show them not all humans are willing to provide for them in the right way, and so it’s important to build up their trust over time.”

The winners of the PATS Sandown 2019 New Product Awards, sponsored by pbwnews, were chosen by a team of expert pet retailers, who arrived at the show before 9.30am on Sunday, February 10th, in order to make their choices from a record number of new products entered.
Their decisions took into account a number of guideline criteria such as product innovation, design, quality, packaging and value for money.
The judges agreed that the New Product Showcase had produced a high calibre of entries with a tremendous amount of innovation. They were pleased to see such a wide range of products, and felt the majority of items on display showed some great innovation.
The Awards were presented to the winners at 1pm on Sunday by Karen Pickwick, director of pbwnews, and show organiser Gordon Thomas.

First day at PATS Sandown hailed a huge success

The opening day of PATS Sandown has been hailed as a huge success by exhibitors, who unveiled an amazing array of products in two busy halls at Sandown Park. It’s the first time the event has taken place on a Sunday and Monday in February, and the change of dates has worked wonders for the pet industry.
The opening day of PATS Sandown has been hailed as a huge success by exhibitors, who unveiled an amazing array of products in two busy halls at Sandown Park.
It’s the first time the event has taken place on a Sunday and Monday in February, and the change of dates has worked wonders for the pet industry.
Exhibitors were particularly pleased with the quality of enquiries and orders generated from the many visitors who flocked into the show, and an upbeat atmosphere echoed throughout both the Surrey and Esher Halls.
The Golden Paste Company was one of more than 40 companies exhibiting at PATS Sandown for the first time, and managing director Janine Kell said: “The interest we’ve had from the retail industry has been phenomenal. We’ve been run off our feet, which is so exciting. We decided to do a big push on the pet market this year and coming to PATS has been the perfect start for us.”
Two other newcomers to the Sandown exhibition – Aquamat Chiller and Gravitis Pet Supplies – were equally ecstatic about the show’s day one success.
Aquamat Chiller director Alison Roberts said: “We haven’t stopped since we arrived at the show and what’s more the interest has come from independent retailers, which is the market we were aiming at.”
And Maris Gravitis commented: “So far it has been a very good show. Lots of people have been to our stand and we already have some strong orders. I am very happy to be here and excited about how it can help us to grow.”
Another success story on a memorable opening day was Marriages, who picked up a New Product Award. Sam Marriage, managing director of Marriages Specialist Foods, said: “PATS is a really important launchpad for us and we try to come to every single show with at least one new product. It’s really good that PATS supports us in the industry with these awards as it helps to keep innovation in the market.”
“PATS is the key show to come to for new business and to talk to our existing customers,” said Ryan Winwright, trade manager of Nutriment. “This is the first time it’s been on a Sunday and I think it’s really paid off. There are a lot more independents and pet boutiques that we haven’t really had access to until now. It’s been a great show and it’s only the first day.”
Inspired Pet Nutrition were the first company to book a stand with PATS in 2009 under the Wagg brand and have been attending ever since. Trade sales director Ben Anderson said: ‘”Wow, this year’s show has been brilliant so far. Moving the show to a Sunday has certainly brought out the independent retailers and added a new dimension to an already successful event.”
The show is also attracting lots of international interest. Belgian exhibitors Coucour brought their new Himalyan cheese dog snack to the UK market, and sales manager Jorge Aguilera said: “Congratulations to PATS. Your show is fantastic – we were just at a Paris show a month ago and in comparison the organisation here is so smooth. We’ve had a very enjoyable day.”
The first day of the show also got the thumbs-up from visiting retailers.
Laura Palmer, of Mutleys Pet Supplies, Swaffham, Norfolk, has been attending PATS exhibitions for nine years and she felt this year’s show had been the busiest. “There are lots of new exhibitors and a great variety of products being launched on to the market. As a retailer you must be here,” commented Laura.
And Susan Lynn, who is setting up a boutique pet shop in Hampshire, said: “This is an excellent show. We’re here sourcing unique items we might want to stock and there’s a great variety of specialist products, which is just what we were looking for.”
Garden centre buyers were also impressed with the first day of the show, with Planters of Tamworth’s Josh Winter saying: “It has been a fantastic day and well worth the trip down from the Midlands. I’m really impressed with all the new products being showcased.”
Grooming demonstrations and workshops returned to PATS Sandown after a two-year absence and created quite a buzz in the Esher Hall. Dog groomer Francis Worth of K9 Nanny, Epsom, commented: “This is my first visit to the show and I’m very impressed with the organisation and quality of the exhibitors. I’d give this exhibition a 5-star rating.”
