Throughout its long history, Johnson's Veterinary Products has always supported the independent pet trade. Here director Nick Franks reveals what makes the company stand out from the rest...
Do you supply only the independent pet trade and garden centres?
Our company decision has always been to support the independant pet trade where advice is given, and as such through choice do we not supply the grocery channels and national High Street discount chains.
When was the company launched and by whom?
The company was founded in early 1920s by current chairman's grandfather.
What awards have you won over the years?
We have won various Supplier of the Year awards from PPRA and Pets at Home, and several New Product Awards from PPRA and PATS. Our 4fleas house flea spray is regulalry voted best in the category by readers of Your Dog/Cat magazine.
What makes your products stand out from the rest?
Our product design is clean, clear and simple, and we say what the product is/does on the front. The products are clearly branded Johnson's and we have a recognised logo – a perfect example is our latest PPRA award winning Fipronil Spot-on (see picture). We also design our products very carefully to appeal to the type of consumer who is buying it – for example, our award-winning 4fleas range is pink, where research shows over 75% of pet owners buying flea control are women! We innovate with the latest ingredients – our Evening Primrose Oil Capsules, Manuka Honey Shampoo and Aloe Vera Shampoo are all currently extremely popular in the human sector. On the medicinal side our two latest veterinary strength flea range launches – one using Fipronil and the other Imidacloprid used in our brand new 4fleas Spot-on – are still currently available from vets.
How much time, effort and money do you invest in producing new products?
New products are the life blood of any company. With a total of 290 products in our range, we have launched 19 new ones in the past 12-18 months (and another major new product due by the summer). We invest considerable time and resources into bringing the very latest products into the 'GSL' sector.
Do you export your products?
We export all over the world from Canada to Europe to the Far East.
