Pet industry saddened by death of pet nutritionist

The Pet Industry Federation was saddened to learn of the recent death of esteemed pet nutritionist, John Murray, of Woodbridge, Suffolk.

John worked in the field of animal nutrition for most of his career and was at one time head of nutrition for a major feed supplement company. In addition, he was involved with food processing technology and raw material development in both the animal and human food world.

He spent time spent in Kenya with the World Food Programme making food for refugees and in other countries around the world. Towards the end of this career, he concentrated on horse and small animal nutrition, particularly dogs, developing new treats and complete foods for pet food companies.

PIF had worked with John on many nutrition projects and recommended his expertise on nutritional matters to many members. He also advised PIF on nutritional issues to support its policy work and training courses.

Nigel Baker, PIF CEO, had known and worked with John for nearly three decades and attended John’s funeral on 16 January. He said: “John was one of the nicest and kindest people you could meet. He was ‘one of a kind’ when it came to pet and animal nutrition. He knew how to formulate recipes in an exceptional way. John will be very sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.”
