After two years of nationwide lockdowns and foreign travel restrictions, many Brits will be jetting off for some much-needed summer sun this year.
However, it seems the thought of leaving our beloved pets behind while we’re off on holiday is too much to bear for many dog owners, who are instead opting to holiday in the UK – and they’re taking their pets with them!

They also noted that searches for ‘Dog friendly cafes’ was up 160% compared to 2021, ‘Dog friendly restaurants’ by 110% and searches for ‘Dog friendly attractions’ was up by 70% on last year, as people look to get out and about with their pets.
Scotland seems to be high on this year’s staycation hit list for pet owners, as searches for ‘Dog friendly cottages in Scotland by the sea’ was up by 110% compared to 2021.
With 12.5 million dogs now living in the UK, many hotels, holiday lets, restaurants and attractions are choosing to welcome both two and four legged guests through their doors. But Dr Jayne Laycock, resident vet at YuMOVE warns pet owners to do their research before they book.
She comments: “It's amazing that so many dog owners want to take their pets away on holiday with them. It’s definitely a great time to bond with your pet, and exploring new places allows you to be more active together.
"However, it’s also important to think carefully about your dog’s needs to ensure they stay safe and well throughout your time away. Yes, this may require a bit more forward thinking and planning than usual, but trust me, it’ll be worth it to build those lasting memories together with your pet.”
