Burgess Pet Care extends range for mature guinea pigs

Burgess Pet Care has expanded its successful Burgess Excel product range for small animals with the addition of Mature Guinea Pig Nuggets with Cranberry & Mint, which has been specially formulated for guinea pigs aged four and above.

Research from the University of Liverpool, supported by Burgess, suggests that there are around one million pet guinea pigs in the UK and over 35% of these are classed as mature (aged four and above).

Burgess’ Mature Guinea Pig Nuggets have been developed with ingredients that support guinea pigs’ specific needs as they age, comprising:

  • Joint Support: glucosamine provides cushioning for the joints.
  • Eye Health: the most common reason guinea pigs visit the vets is for eye-related issues. Marigolds contain carotenoids such as Lutein, an antioxidant found within the eye.
  • Brain Health: supplementing Mono, Di and Tri glycerides of fatty acids in the diet of mature animals can help to support brain health.
  • Supports Vitality: prebiotics and postbiotics enhance and support the wellbeing of pets.

Annabel Coleman, Excel brand manager at Burgess Pet Care, said: “We are really excited to introduce Burgess Excel Mature Guinea Pig Nuggets. We have worked hard to produce a high-quality recipe which has been specially formulated with vets and nutritionists, to ensure it offers the right balance of vitamins and minerals to suit older guinea pigs’ needs. Our mature nuggets are high in beneficial fibre – something guineas need in their diet - and help to prevent selective feeding, which is associated with numerous health issues.

“As the company behind Guinea Pig Awareness Week, and having launched the first Guinea Pig Welfare Forum earlier this year, we are committed to providing guinea pigs with the right nutrition and feeding plans to cater for every life stage through our Excel range, which is highly recommended by UK vets."

Burgess Excel Mature Guinea Pig is available in a 1.5kg pack (RRP £8.30) with packaging designed to complement the existing Excel range of guinea pig products. Any retailers interested in stocking the range may contact consumercare@burgesspetcare.co.uk.
