Blackburn-based Pets Choice Ltd, whose brands include Webbox, Bob Martin, Felight, Tastybone and B-Calm, has purchased Pettex Ltd and its cat litter and small animal business.
The previous owners of the Essex-based firm are retaining the reptile and aquatic business which will be trading as a separate entity going forwards under Pettex Aquatics Ltd.
Tony Raeburn, CEO of Pets Choice, said: “This is a fantastic acquisition for Pets Choice as Pettex Cat Litter has a very strong following in the traditional pet trade and fits nicely alongside our Felight cat litter brand. Our two companies and families have been close friends for many years and I would like to thank the owners for trusting us with their Pettex brand.”
Steve Bolton, MD of Pettex Ltd, added: “As a third generation family business originally established in 1959 we are proud to have developed the Pettex cat litter brand but feel this is now the right time to hand over the reins to Tony and the Pets Choice team to take us onto the next level. This will also enable myself to work with our great team and to expand our growing Reptile and Aquatic business which we will be continuing to develop as Pettex Aquatics Ltd.”

Archie Wilson and Rory Hanna, the founders of London-based business start-up and pet health supplement company PAWD DRINKS, have added to their successful first year in business by becoming a finalist in the UK StartUp Awards for the London region. They have made the finals in the Retail and E-Commerce category.
The UK StartUp Awards are organised by the founders of The Great British Entrepreneur Awards and the Fast Growth 50 Index. They champion and celebrate the best and brightest start-ups from ten regions across the United Kingdom. All category winners from the ten regions will go forward to compete in the UK national final where the best new businesses in the UK will be crowned in their respective categories as well as the overall UK StartUp of the year.
The award recognition comes on the back of PAWD DRINKS securing their first major retail deal with Pets Corner seeing their product range now on sale in their 160 stores nationwide.
PAWD DRINKS’ innovative health supplement drinks for dogs made the finals of 6 major industry awards in 2024 and in June last year they met and were accepted onto the NatWest Accelerator Programme. The PAWD DRINKS team attended over 60 events last year to promote their products, they have shipped to 8 countries, have received over 120 5 star reviews for their products and have hosted a series of community dog walks. Their debut at PATS (the pet industry trade show) saw queues on their stand and interest from the major wholesalers and distributors.
PAWD DRINKS are the result of extensive research and development by world-leading animal nutritionists including Dr. Farshad Goodarzi Boroojeni and are veterinary-approved. Each formula has been carefully crafted to not only address specific health concerns but also contribute to the overall well-being of our four-legged friends. PAWD DRINKS are pH neutral and contain no acidifiers or preservatives.
The drinks market for pets is relatively new but growing and PAWD DRINKS tackle a number of important areas. As well as hydration and wellness, PAWD DRINKS are absorbed more quickly andefficiently by a dog's body compared to pills, powders and chews. This is important when addressing certain health or behavioural issues and when you need a fast result. Administering liquid supplements to dogs is easier than giving them pills or chews, especially for dogs that are finicky eaters or have difficulty swallowing. Liquid supplements can be mixed into their food or into an empty dog bowl and as dogs want to drink and love the taste of PAWD DRINKS, it makes them easier to administer. Dosage is 60 ml for all dogs per day. They are palatable, achieve faster results and are gentle on the digestive system. PAWD DRINKS are less likely to cause irritation or discomfort compared to some pill formulations.
Recently launched, PAWD DRINKS Wellness contains 100% natural active ingredients such as L-leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-valine (BCAAs) as well as Yeast Extract. These are all designed to aid muscle recovery, support the immune system and improve cognitive health.
Other supplements in the range include PAWD DRINKS Joints which has been formulated to address stiffness and joint mobility with up to 80% of all dogs suffering from some form of mobility issues over the age of 8. PAWD DRINKS Joints contains natural ingredients, such as ginger, acerola and devil’s claw to support joint mobility.
PAWD DRINKS Calming will help to relax and soothe your dog in any anxious situations. This can be in the form of separation, social, travel or noise anxiety, with around 70% of dogs suffering with fear or anxiety. So,as well as helping to keep your pet hydrated, you can tackle some of the many problems that affect dogs whilst helping to improve their overall wellness.

Law Print & Packaging Management Ltd Pack will be exhibiting at Zoomark in Italy from 5-7 May 2025, where the company will reveal how the right packaging can help to grow a business.
MD Carole Bayne said: “We are very much looking forward to meeting with all our UK and EU-based customers face to face, as well as consolidating the relationships we have built with new prospects in the pet trade industry.
“Although we supply both conventional and sustainable packaging across a wide range of pack formats, materials and features, this year we will be also showcasing our further improved Ready2Recycle range of sustainable solutions.
“Made of a single polymer structure, they are all 100% recyclable! Our most popular options are PE/PE pouches, flat bottom or quad seal bags, as well as PP woven bags.
They are made of a laminated structure of BOPE, MDOPE, EVOH-PE, PE MET or PP materials, meaning that they are ready to be recycled at the end of use, contributing to a more circular economy.
“After 20 years of trading independently, we are now a member of the SCGP group, so this edition will be even more special as we will introduce our wider portfolio to now include rigid packaging products such as trays, tubs and bottles, but also digital and recycled content solutions.
“Come and visit us at the British Pavilion in Hall 26 Stand B10 to discuss how we could help your business to grow by choosing the right packaging for your brand and your products, whilst meeting EPR obligations and your own sustainability targets.”

It’s The Dog’s, the innovative creator of premium human-quality protein treats for dogs, has joined forces with ethical canine course provider Canine Principles to help spread the word about dog welfare.
The partnership between the London-based course provider and the Sussex based brand will kick off with a special treat giveaway, where 2,000 lucky learners from Canine Principles will receive a selection of It’s The Dog’s mouth-watering, human-grade protein balls.
As well as that, Canine Principles’ expert owner Jo Middleton will also share exclusive behavioural training videos with It’s The Dog’s customers, ensuring that all dogs involved get the best in both nutrition and training.
Matt Hunt, founder of It’s The Dog’s, said: "Imagine a world where dogs could choose their food.
"They wouldn’t settle for cheap, over-processed junk. No, they’d choose the freshest, tastiest, most nutritious food they could find. And that’s exactly what we’ve created—treats that are as good for dogs as we’d want for ourselves!"
She continued, "We’ve spent years perfecting our treats, ensuring they’re packed with protein, prebiotics, and all the good stuff.
"Partnering with Canine Principles is a natural fit for us because we both believe in raising the standard of care for dogs. Whether it’s through nutrition or behaviour, we want to help dogs live their healthiest, happiest lives."
And Canine Principles’ founder, Jo Middleton, is equally excited about the alliance. "This is such an exciting partnership for us," Jo said. "It’s The Dog’s shares our ethos of ethical, high-quality care for dogs. We’ve trained over 15,000 dog professionals and enthusiasts, and we know how crucial it is to provide not just the right training, but the right nutrition to support a dog’s development.
"This partnership will give our learners access to the best treats on the market, and with It’s The Dog’s focus on health and wellbeing, we’re confident their treats will support our mission to improve canine lives."
The partnership will also feature short Canine Principles’ behavioural training videos, which will be available to It’s The Dog’s customers. These videos will help pet owners better understand their dogs, improve training methods, and ultimately foster a stronger bond with their pets.
But it’s not just about providing great products and services. Both Matt and Jo are passionate about giving back to the dog-loving community, especially rescue organisations.
Matt explains, "We know that proper nutrition is key to rehabilitating rescue dogs. We want to do our part to make sure that every dog, whether in a home or in a shelter, has access to the best nutrition possible."

Birmingham Dogs Home is asking people to get involved in its ‘Spring into May’ fundraising challenge, to raise fundamental funds for the abandoned and unwanted dogs surrendered into its care.
The money raised will provide crucial shelter, food, and medical treatment for the dogs cared by Birmingham Dogs Home – which, despite rescuing over 2000 animals each year – receive no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of donators.
Though it costs the charity £6,000 a day just to keep the doors open, every penny raised is vital.
Birmingham Dogs Home is encouraging participants to choose their own challenge to complete over the month, such as walking, running, cycling, or any personal goal. The challenge is open to individuals, families, and workplaces and can be easily signed up for online.
The suggested fundraising target is £100, but any amount raised will make a difference to this necessary Birmingham charity. Those who reach the £50 mid-point will receive a free gift of thanks.
Rooted in promoting wellbeing, community spirit, and positive action for animal welfare, previous challenges have helped to raise significant support and awareness for the charity’s important work.
Last year, long time supporter Sheila Mansell raised over £200 alone during her fundraiser challenge. She said “Having supported Birmingham Dogs Home for over 50 years, it always a pleasure to help this wonderful charity.
“Sasha and I enjoyed walking many miles in our local Sutton Coldfield park during this Spring into May Virtual Challenge and meeting some new people along the way and explaining our cause we were walking for.”
Rachel Frost, Events & Community Fundraising Manager, at Birmingham Dogs Home added: “Every step you take helps a dog in need. We think that’s amazing. This May, we’re encouraging you to challenge yourself, support local rescue dogs and make the month really matter.
“Our four-legged friends will thank you for your kindness and determination. We wouldn’t be able to care for them without you.”
Birmingham Dogs Home is one of the UK’s oldest and best-known animal charities, providing care since 1892.
You can sign up for the challenge online at https://birminghamdogshome.org.uk/support-us/spring-into-may/ and find out more about the dogs in its care.

Southwest rescue centres enjoy Scottish treat

Wilsons To The Rescues, the charity initiative set up by Scottish-based pet food maker Wilsons, has been hitting the road this month, dishing up its natural recipes to deserving dogs in Bristol.
Bristol’s largest rescue centres, Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary and the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, which rehome around 650 dogs a year between them, welcomed deliveries of Wilsons natural cold pressed dry dog food and treats.
“As Bristol’s longest-standing animal rescue charity, Bristol A.R.C. supports hundreds of dogs each year, many suffering from medical or behavioural challenges. Donations like this from Wilsons are more than just food; they support recovery and rehabilitation and help give each dog the best possible chance of finding a new home.” Said Luke Mitchell, Corporate & Trusts Fundraising Officer.
Holly Hedge, not far from Bristol Airport, established over thirty years ago, covers an area spanning Bristol, Somerset and South Gloucestershire. “Our annual food bill averages around £17,000 a year, so receiving large food donations from organisations such as Wilsons makes a real difference to us,” said Sue Kingman, Fundraising Manager. “The cold pressed and treats received from Wilsons will significantly benefit our training programmes and help with engagement games. It will make such a positive impact.”
Wilsons to the Rescues has supported UK rescue centres for over five years, donating food, promoting good nutrition and providing a platform for charities to raise their profile and promote their fundraising needs. “It means a lot to us as a business and a team to support the welfare of dogs being cared for at rescues. We’re always deeply touched by what we see first-hand at the centres we visit. Good nutrition can make such a difference to a dog’s overall welfare. Being able to donate our food and treats is a real honour”, said Craig Wallace, MD, Wilsons.

OATA’s Chief Executive Dominic Whitmee has announced his intention to retire in September after nine years at the helm.
Dominic joined the trade association in July 2016 from the civil service where he had worked on the CITES team in the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
OATA’s Scientific and Technical Adviser Dr Matthew Bond now becomes the Association’s Deputy Chief Executive and will step up to take on the top job from 1st October, having shadowed Dominic for the past year.
Dominic said: “It has been a privilege to lead OATA over these past years and I hope I have helped to further strengthen the industry and the trade organisation so that it continues to be in a solid place for the future. I am very pleased to hand the reins over to Matt. We have worked closely over the past years and Matt has ably represented OATA on a range of subjects, including UK Border issues and at international meetings. I know he will bring his scientific expertise and personal love of fishkeeping to the trade association and he’ll be a positive driving force in guiding our sector to a productive and profitable future.”
Matthew joined OATA in June 2020. He was the main author of the organisation’s 2021 Fishing For Facts: an introduction to the UK ornamental fish trade report and has taken the lead to represent both OATA and the European Pet Organisation at a number of international meetings over the past couple of years, most notably around the plans by CITES to examine the trade in marine ornamental fishes.
Matthew, a longtime fishkeeper who has also worked on the aquatics shop floor, said: “I’m excited to step into this role and build upon the strong foundation laid by Dominic, and Keith Davenport before him. Having worked closely with Dominic over the past four to five years, I greatly appreciate the vital work OATA does to champion and safeguard our industry. I am committed to continuing this mission, supporting our members in the UK and those involved in the trade internationally, to ensure a thriving future for the trade in pet fish.”
OATA Chair Laura Carlin, of EcoMarines, said: “The Board wishes Dominic well in his retirement and we thank him for his dedicated, passionate work over the past decade. Dominic has been intrinsic in guiding OATA through a particularly turbulent time, whilst also facilitating new connections in government which will serve our future. He has also been instrumental in including an otherwise under-represented demographic and promoting inclusivity allowing for a richer conversation. It has been a real pleasure and privilege to work alongside Dominic during my time as Chair. I am confident he leaves us in great hands with Matt, leaving a legacy of clear strategic direction which will help us continue to represent our members and the industry in what continues to be a challenging time.”

Following a successful debut at the event in 2024, the trade association has announced that they will host a UK group at this year’s event, taking place from 29 to 31 October in Bangkok.
British pet products are highly regarded in South East Asia, particularly in more affluent markets and among pet owners seeking high-quality, health-focused, and premium products.
Pet Fair South East Asia originated four years ago as a virtual event and has grown into an industry experience platform. In 2024 the event hosted over 400 exhibitors from 32 countries and 10,000 trade visitors from more than 80 countries.
Pet Fair South East Asia promises a dynamic and welcoming environment for the UK group, with a central, prime location along the main aisle.
Emma Brazier, Event Manager for PetQuip commented: “Pet Fair South East Asia offers British companies a valuable opportunity to gain access to a rapidly expanding and diverse market. With growing demand for premium pet products and a strong appreciation of quality, this event provides a platform to showcase products, forge partnerships, and gather insights that will help expand a British brand’s presence in South East Asia. The fair serves as an ideal launch pad for entering or growing within this increasingly lucrative market.”
PetQuip is offering pre-show and on-site support, with fully designed stands, ready for companies to simply turn up and display their products.
Additionally, a series of scheduled press releases and a preview will promote the British group to key buyers and international media.
In 2024, the British group, organised by PetQuip, made an incredibly successful debut, with five exhibitors: Scruffs, James & Steel, Pets Choice, Huntland Pet Food and Animology.
Chris Keightley from Pets Choice reflected: “The reception we received for our products at Pet Fair South East Asia far exceeded our expectations. It was clear that South East Asia values the innovation and quality that come with British products and we received a warm welcome. We have already seen strong demand for our range across several countries as a direct result of our participation".

Gardenex and PetQuip have welcomed their new Director General, following the retirement of Amanda Sizer Barrett.
Joe Denham has been Chairman of the Board of the Federation since 2020, bringing his wide commercial experience, company start up skills and mentoring talent to support and guide the team at the Federation, which will now transfer to the day to day leadership of the organisations.
Joe commented: “I am delighted to be taking on my new role, at a crucial time for both Gardenex and PetQuip. While the last few years have been extremely challenging for UK exporters, I am excited to start a new chapter at the Federation as we navigate the next stage. I am looking forward to meeting as many members as I can over the next few weeks and to introducing additional benefits to strengthen and grow the support we can offer existing and new members.”
Joe, together with his business partner Paul Owen, started VegTrug in 2009 which proved to be a massive success in the garden industry. Now exporting globally, the business has opened a US subsidiary based in Pennsylvania to support sales efforts in America and a second subsidiary in Germany. The business was sold to a Tokyo Listed Group company in 2012.
Joe has a diverse background, moving from a career which started in Barclays Bank in the early 80’s, into data communications (witnessing the birth of the internet) then owning an innovative online delivered IT training company based in Dubai which was sold under a NASDAQ merger in the late 90’s; to having his own show on Shopping TV for a number of years; to owning a 120 acre farm in France (producing horse feed) before starting VegTrug.
Joe has been married to Lesley for 31 years and they have four sons. He holds a commercial drone pilot licence as well as a private helicopter licence. His interests include collecting contemporary art and very fast cars!
The Federation has recently moved offices to a new home at Salomons Estate near Tunbridge Wells.

Independent retailers are experiencing a revival in areas where cars have been restricted, according to new evidence revealed in Bira's latest 'High Street Matters' podcast.
The episode shows how low traffic neighbourhoods in London and Birmingham have transformed congested roads into bustling community spaces, with businesses reporting significant shifts in trade patterns.
In "Beyond Cars - Creating Vibrant High Streets Through Low Traffic Neighbourhoods," journalist Steve Dyson interviews key figures who have witnessed this transformation firsthand.
Natalie Lindsay, secretary of the Wandsworth Bridge Road Association in London, shares how their community group has changed perceptions of what was once viewed as "just a main road" by highlighting its potential as a high street with 80 shops nearby.
"We've developed a vision of a less car-centric and more people-friendly road," Natalie said. "What had happened over the years is that over 80% of the cars being driven down this road were not coming to this part of Fulham they weren't coming to shop they were literally just passing through."
Through initiatives including an annual street fair that attracts 20,000 visitors and the introduction of parklets, the area has been transformed.
"It's almost felt like somewhere on the continent with people sitting out on the benches and outside seating," Natalie added. "These people are coming and spending money on the High Street because they are hanging out there."
In Birmingham's Kings Heath, Henry Poultney of Grace and James, a neighbourhood wine bar and cheesemonger, describes how pedestrianising York Road has transformed his business model.
"The LTN has meant that York Road is a real destination, a real pleasant place for putting seats outside," Henry said. "We've got pavement licences to put tables out onto the street, as have lots of other pubs and hospitality businesses along York Road."
Though both case studies highlight that their schemes remain works in progress, the podcast reveals that LTNs can play a crucial role in high street regeneration when properly implemented.
Bira CEO Andrew Goodacre emphasised the importance of LTNs for retailers, but warned of a common disconnect.
He said: "I think they are important for various reasons if you think about the need to reduce traffic from environmental perspective, and then we have the wider issue of creating different 'place'. The real danger is that the decision to create a low traffic neighbourhood is often driven without thinking about the businesses, with a focus on just reducing traffic. LTNs can be good for businesses but only if the plan is cohesive, involves local business owners and is broader than just blocking a few streets."
The 'High Street Matters' podcast series is available on all major streaming platforms (search High Street Matters), with new episodes released throughout the year covering various topics relevant to today's retail landscape.

Pet owners could save £970 on avoidable and unexpected vet bills with simple, routine annual vaccinations, according to new research.
A study commissioned by MyPet.com surveyed 2,000 UK cat and dog owners and discovered 81% think of their pet as one of the loves of their lives, while 41% see them as their child.
But while pet owners are ready to splash the cash to show their pets how much they’re loved, many are leaving their animals vulnerable by lapsing on yearly vaccinations and missing regular veterinary health checks.
Industry figures show that 58% of dogs and 72% of cats in the UK haven’t been protected with annual vaccinations in the last year, while as many as 10% of pet owners in the MyPet.com survey admit they only take their pet for a check-up when they’re unwell. This not only puts their pets at risk but also ends up costing them even more money in the long run.
What’s more, the study shows that one in six (13%) of us have simply lost track of what vaccinations or treatments our pet has, or hasn’t had, over the years.
Veterinary experts are warning pet owners of the dangers of not vaccinating their pets annually due to the risks of contracting and transmitting serious illnesses from their everyday adventures. This warning comes as 44% of pet owners surveyed admit that their pet often drinks from muddy puddles, 34% bring home presents like mice and birds, 30 percent drink from water bowls in public spaces, and 17% regularly use doggy daycare, kennels or pet sitters.
Not only can these activities leave pets susceptible to diseases like leptospirosis and parvovirus if they are left unvaccinated, but they can also result in hefty bills if your pet becomes seriously unwell.
Nearly half (43%) of pet owners say they have needed to pay for an unexpected or emergency vet bill which could have been prevented with routine annual vaccinations. These visits have cost up to £970 each time because 51% of pet owners delayed or avoided taking their pet to the vet due to concerns about the initial cost, while 49% were unsure about the purpose of vaccinations.
Leading veterinarians are urging pet owners to rethink their approach to showing their dogs how much they are loved by prioritising preventative care, explains Dr James Greenwood.
The veterinary expert shared: “This research confirms what we as vets encounter every day with our patients – many pets suffer unnecessarily from illnesses that could be easily prevented with a simple annual vaccination. Vaccinations and regular health assessments not only save lives but can also reduce stress and financial strain for pet owners.
“Whether pet owners are struggling to understand their options when it comes to vaccinations or are concerned about the cost, I’d always recommend talking to their vet about the treatments on offer as well as the health care plans that are available.”
Additionally, Rebecca Keseru, Veterinary Advisor at MSD Animal Health warns of the dangers of failing behind with your pet’s vaccinations: “Vaccinations are essential part of keeping our pets healthy. Not only, along with a yearly health check, do they help protect from life-threatening diseases like canine parvovirus and feline panleukopenia, but they can also help owners avoid costly medical treatments in the future.”
“Sometimes people assume pets only need vaccines when they are young, but dog and cat vaccinations do not last a lifetime, so our pets need regular boosters throughout their lives to remain protected.”
Vets (85%), veterinary clinics (55%), websites (32%), family (23%) and friends (21%) are the main sources of information when it comes to our pet’s health, along with other owners (16%) and forums (12%).
Amid these concerning statistics, experts urge pet owners to act by prioritising preventative care, so pets can live longer, healthier lives full of everyday adventures and avoid unnecessary nights in hospital.

Major companies are taking advantage of the opportunity to increase their stand space at PATS 2025 following the decision to move the exhibition to the NEC Birmingham, and as a result they will be showcasing multiple brands during the show in September.
The Pet & Aquatics Trade Show will take place over three days from Sunday, 28th September to Tuesday, 30th September 2025, and more than 300 companies and brands have already confirmed their stands.
With the final exhibitor number expected to be well past the 400-mark, pet retailers and buyers are being encouraged to sign up for free registration on the PATS website www.patshow.co.uk now.
The Nutriment Company is one the fastest growing companies in Europe, having already acquired four new businesses in 2025, and it will be using PATS to introduce customers to its impressive portfolio. Ryan Winwright, Head of UK Marketing Operations, said: “We’re looking forward to exhibiting our full range of brands at this year’s show. With products designed for all pets, customers, and feeding styles, we’re excited to showcase what we have to offer – from raw meals to other feeding formats, natural treats and supplements. Head to The Nutriment Company stand to experience Nutriment, Natural Instinct, DIBO, The Dog’s Butcher, Nova Dog Chews, Pet Treats Wholesale and Aniforte.”

Pedigree Wholesale will be presenting its extensive range of wholesale offerings, including standout products from its own brand and exclusive lines – Natures Deli, Doodle’s Deli, Chuckit!, JW, Cooper & Co, Earth Animal, TropiClean and Nobblys. Head of Marketing Esther Key declared: “We're thrilled to be exhibiting at this year's three-day PATS show – the first time at the NEC. This event is a fantastic opportunity for us to reconnect with our valued customers and partners while showcasing the very best of Pedigree Wholesale. With the show’s new location making it more accessible than ever, we’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors, connecting with suppliers and discovering the latest innovations in the pet industry.”
Regular PATS exhibitor Canagan Group will be showcasing its premium pet food brands, including Canagan, Symply, and Yora. Joint managing director Charlie Williams announced: “We’re especially excited to introduce the brand-new Canagan Petite Range, designed specifically for smaller breeds. As always, our brands are proudly available only for the independent pet trade, and PATS is the perfect opportunity to connect with retailers who share our passion for quality and innovation. We can’t wait to see our customers old and new.”

Winner of two New Product Awards at PATS 2024, Donald Cooke can’t wait to return to this year’s exhibition with popular brands like K9 Chew Co, Tick Twister and No More Plaque plus a new Suteki Pond range. Simon Lewis-Dale, head of business development, commented: “PATS 2024 was the best UK trade show I have attended in 20 years – it had a great buzz about it. Moving to the NEC will no doubt increase the number of visitors and looking at the exhibitor list, it’s going to be packed with lots of current and new suppliers as well. Having the Aquatics Zone plus Beta International on at the same time make this event a must for the trade.”
Fold Hill Foods is another company planning to exhibit multiple brands at PATS 2024. “We will be showcasing Ruffingtons, Laughing Dog Food, Pointer, and the newly acquired Brambles as well as our co-manufacturing and white label services,” said senior marketing executive Cassandra Brennan. “We will have a full team on-hand to discuss all of our offerings, and with a new venue and a bigger stand we are looking forward to a busy show.”
New products from Bamboodles, Sir Woofchester’s, Wonderful World of Treats and CleanyTeeth will be unveiled on the Pet Trade Innovations stand, with director Steve Driver saying: “We are super excited about the PATS show this year. We are in the process of working with a top London agency to re-brand the Bamboodles range and we will be launching this new look at the show along with several new Bamboodles products. On top of this we have new treats from Sir Woofchester's and Wonderful World of Treats plus a new version of the CleanyTeeth toothbush which is even more powerful and easier to use.”
Chanelle Pharma, a manufacturer of veterinary and human medicines based in Ireland, will be exhibiting its popular brands Prazitel, Ridaworm, Imidaflea, and Fipnil Plus at PATS. Marketing executive Julie Feeney said: “We are looking forward to the three-day exhibition at the NEC where we’ll be showcasing both our Chanelle Pharma branded products and own-brand capabilities. The show allows us to both connect with current customers and meet new ones.”
The Aquatics Zone, a dedicated area for aquatics, watergardening and reptile exhibitors, is returning to PATS after a successful launch in 2024, and it will also host major companies exhibiting multiple brands.
ALF will be showcasing popular brands like Velda, Seachem, Sicce, Vitalis, Aquael, Hugo Kamishi, JBL, Ocean Nutrition and EHEIM. “We will have representatives from around the world giving demonstrations and answering any questions on all our ranges. We are looking forward to an exciting PATS 2025,” said sales director Ian Blinco.
Norwood Aquarium will be appearing in the Zone for the first time and can’t wait to take advantage of exhibiting. Sales manager Sam Street said: “We’ll be showcasing many exciting innovations and products. It's a fantastic opportunity to connect with customers and suppliers and build valuable relationships. This year, we are proud to be showcasing two incredible brands – Gioia Shrimp and Aquatlantis – alongside our own offerings.”
Director Maurits van de Pol declared that Aquadistri UK had an incredible PATS in 2024, and the company was thrilled about the move to the NEC. “We’ll be showcasing our standout brands – Superfish, offering exceptional value-for-money aquarium products; Colombo, providing professional-grade medications designed with the hobbyist in mind; and Aquafleur, featuring premium-quality aquarium plants cultivated in our very own Dutch nursery. It’s going to be an exciting opportunity to share our passion and top-notch products with our existing and potential new customers.”
If retailers and buyers need more encouragement to register now for free entry to the three-day exhibition, here’s a quick summary of the popular visitor attractions:

PATS 2025 is also being staged alongside BETA International, the leading equestrian trade show taking place in Hall 2 at the NEC on Sunday, 28th September and Monday, 29th September 2025. Dog food firm Different Dog raises £10m investment
Different Dog, a premium fresh dog food subscription service, has announced that it has raised £10m, from new and existing investors, to accelerate its mission to change dogs’ lives with real food...

Different Dog, a premium fresh dog food subscription service, has announced that it has raised £10m, from new and existing investors, to accelerate its mission to change dogs’ lives with real food.
With pet ownership on the rise, 3.2 million UK households welcomed a new pet during the pandemic, increasing the total number of dogs to 13 million. Different Dog is now expanding its operations to meet the growing demand from owners prioritising premium nutrition and wellbeing.
The funding will enable the company to move to a new state-of-the-art facility in Telford, the ‘dog capital of the UK’, expanding its capacity to serve thousands more dogs with its hand-cooked, human-grade meals. The company is also investing in marketing to grow its customer base and hiring top talent to accelerate growth.

Founded in 2017 by husband-and-wife duo Charlie & Alex Thurstan, Different Dog was born out of frustration with the mass-produced, highly processed nature of pet food. Determined to prove that fresh, nutritious meals are the key to canine health and happiness, the couple started by cooking meals for their own dog, Crumble. Since then, the company has grown exponentially, now feeding over 18,000 dogs and employing over 100 people.
Different Dog offers a personalised subscription service designed to make feeding fresh, nutritious meals easy for dog owners. Customers start by providing details about their dog, including age, breed, activity level and dietary needs. Based on this, Different Dog creates a tailored meal plan using fresh, hand-cooked, human-grade ingredients.
This latest investment follows five consecutive years of revenue doubling year-on-year, fueled by a passionate, loyal and growing customer base. The company has also earned a 4.8 Trustpilot rating and a 96% score on leading dog food directory allaboutdogfood.com.
Alex Thurstan, co-founder of Different Dog, said: “More and more owners are seeking healthier options for their dogs, and seeing clear benefits from feeding hand-cooked fresh food. We’re delighted that this investment will help us take things to the next level and change even more dogs’ lives.”
James Connelly, founder of Charlie Oscar Group, a major shareholder and Board Director for Different Dog: "Different Dog is leading the way in pet nutrition, offering a fresh high-quality alternative to traditional pet food. With the growing demand for higher quality, more nutritious options for pets, we’re excited to support the team as they scale their operations and bring their innovative approach to even more dog owners.”

PetPlace – which has stores in Llangefni, Ruthin, Mold, Abergele and Gledrid, Oswestry, and a HQ in Kinmel Bay – has collected a staggering £94,789 for Hope House and Ty Gobaith children’s hospices.
Led by Managing Director Sion Pritchard, the independent retailer organised a series of events and activities while sponsoring and supporting innumerable campaigns over the years.
The Snowdon Sunrise Trek, annual ball and the Summer Bumper Raffle are just some of the milestones and challenges PetPlace has got behind for the Conwy Valley and Oswestry-based hospice centres, which care for hundreds of babies, children and young adults every year.
An open day at the Mold store, Gledrid Dog Weekend and Equine Day, Pride in the Park Llangefni and Abergele, and the Final Moments Matter appeal – which saw them donate £10,000 after match-funding the £5,000 pledged by customers in just five days – were other notable achievements.

Reflecting on the news, Sion said: “We received a letter telling us how much we had donated over the years and were completely overwhelmed, it was a huge shock.
“As well as supporting events we have collection tins at all our stores which have contributed to this figure, and despite our long-standing commitment to do all we can for the hospices, for us to be so close to the £100,000 mark is amazing.
“Thank you so much to our incredible and loyal customers, we could not have done this without you – we look forward to smashing through the £100,000 barrier very soon for this brilliant charity.”
Andy Everley, Fundraising Team Leader for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, said: “PetPlace have had a long-standing and very loyal relationship with our hospices, one which we are very grateful for.
“Through staff fundraising, sponsorship of many key events and supporting match funding campaigns, they have hit this great total which has made a huge difference to local children and families living with a life-threatening condition.
“Huge thanks to Sion and his team thinking of their community first and choosing to support Hope House Tŷ Gobaith – you're all amazing.”

Pet companies have been causing a stir this week with April Fools hoaxes, including HayPigs! launching Aqua Wheeker, the world’s first premium bottled water for guinea pigs.
HayPigs! announced that Aqua Wheeker was a natural spring water, sourced and bottled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Renowned for its incredible purity, and rich mineral content, it is said that the local Peruvian population, including the native guinea pigs, have for generations thrived due to the health benefits from drinking it.
Available in a 320ml and 600ml glass bottle, Aqua Wheeker was said to be compatible with most pet bottle spouts, making it easy to mount in your cage and very gluggable for your piggies.
HayPigs! co-founder Helen Cridland explained: “It is clear that demand for premium bottled water is on the up, with consumers increasingly choosing to buy water that is free from contaminants and enriched with minerals, rather than risking taking it from the tap. Given this trend, it clearly makes sense that we’d want the same for our pets! Water is an essential part of any small animals’ diet, and it is important that this water is kept clean and fresh for our little ones. With Aqua Wheeker, water is life!”
Husaand and co-founder Rik continued: “We’ve been trialling this water with our own guinea pigs for months now and they have certainly got a spring in their step! We had one lazy piggy that would spend most of her days sat with her head in the hay hopper. Since drinking Aqua Wheeker™ she’s been like a new sow, zooming about her cage and doing laps of the outdoor run! Hydration is clearly super important for guinea pigs, so whatever source you choose, make sure to always offer plenty of fresh drinking water with your feeding hay. Your piggies will love you for it!”

Meanwhile, Dorwest announced it was launching a new dog bottom-flavoured toothpaste ‘Sniffy Bum Bum’.
The company stated that Sniffy Bum Bum toothpaste had been developed by experts to support the calming pathways in dogs to create a toothpaste all dogs will love. Brushing dogs’ teeth can sometimes be a real chore for owners, but with a tasty toothpaste on the menu, Sniffy Bum Bum provides a calming and interesting scent all dogs will love.
Jo Boughton-White Msc, Managing Director at Dorwest comments: “Every dog loves a bum sniff. We’re really proud of Sniffy Bum Bum and feel this is exactly what all dogs want. A toothpaste they simply can’t get enough of.”
