It’s official – the North East is the dog friendliest place to live in the UK

With around 34% of UK households owning a dog*, Purely Pets has revealed that the North East ‘takes the lead’ as the region where our canine companions are more likely to live!

According to data from the pet insurance specialist, over 16% of owners live in the region with the top areas being South Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear and West Yorkshire respectively, and these three also feature in the top ten counties list too.

Looking at the top ten places, according to the data, Lancashire reigns supreme with 5.5% of owners living in the county, followed by Essex and Kent with just over 5% of customers, and their dogs, residing in each area. West Midlands, Cheshire, Hampshire and Cambridgeshire also feature on the list.

Ross Hallifax, Affinity Director at Purely Pets, comments: “As a nation of dog lovers, we wanted to reveal where in the UK are the dog friendliest places to live! ‘Pet parents’ have a responsibility to make sure their companions are happy, healthy and safe and if you are thinking about getting a dog, looking at where you live, and your home environment, is hugely important. Making sure they have access to open space, whether that’s a garden, park or even the beach, and plenty of room to grow and play are all factors to look into and it might also help you choose what breed works best for you!”
