Pet shop boosts trade with birthday cakes for dogs

Lee Ewart, owner of Leesons Aquatics & Pet Supplies in Llanelli, Wales, has created a bakery specialising in birthday cakes for dogs.

The business, Doggy Desserts, is based at the back of the pet shop. Ewart is joined by his business partner Jason Williams, and bakery staff member Tamsin Goode.

Doggy Desserts has been in operation for a month and has received “rave reviews”.

Ewart said: "The cakes, in the space of a few weeks, have been really popular – we must have sold 35 or 38 already.

“People are going crazy for it. They have been calling in, saying ‘I have heard about the cakes’. They are really enthusiastic about it."

The canine-friendly cakes are made using organic flour, free-range eggs, and yoghurt-based carob powder topping (chocolate that is safe for dogs to consume).

Flavours include peanut butter and honey, and the range also includes peanut butter crispy treats, sesame seed & parsley biscuits, cookies & cream and blueberry flavoured treats.
