Scottish-based The Raw Factory Ltd has recalled various raw pet food products containing tripe and pork because of a salmonella scare.

In issuing the product recall, the company placed point of sale notices in all retail stores selling the products. The notices stated:

“Due to previous issues related to our freezer breakdown we are recalling the following – all tripe or pork products including mixes purchased between 19/09/18 and 31/10/18 as these contain salmonella bacteria.

“Please return these directly to Hungry Hounds or dispose of in person. Please do not use these products. A full refund will be given on any affected products.”

The Food Standards Agency also alerted pet owners about the product recall. It said: “Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning in humans and animals. The product could therefore carry a potential risk, either through direct handling of the pet food, or indirectly for example from food bowls or utensils or contact with the faeces of infected animals. In humans, symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.”
