Pet Remedy backs Street Paws Parliament campaign

Pet Remedy, which recently received one of the UK’s highest business honours, has backed a powerful campaign at the Houses of Parliament calling for people facing homelessness not to be separated from their pets..
The company, honoured with the prestigious King's Award for Enterprise for innovation, supported the Street Paws 'No One Left Outside' campaign during a major parliamentary event bringing together MPs, animal welfare experts, campaigners and people with lived experience of homelessness.
One of the most emotional moments of the day came as Big Issue vendors Ian Duff, Andy Sanguy and Kelvin Gregory spoke about the life-changing companionship provided by their dogs during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Andy Sanguy, who works as a Big Issue vendor in Brighton, described the bond with his dog Lucky Charm as essential to his mental wellbeing.
Speaking during the event, he said: “If you were made homeless and had children, you wouldn’t be expected to give up your children. It’s exactly the same bond that people share with their pets, and it should be respected in the same way.”
The campaign is calling for housing providers to stop unreasonably denying accommodation to people simply because they have a pet, particularly where it is safe and appropriate for animals to be kept.
Campaigners say many people facing homelessness continue to avoid shelters or emergency accommodation because pets are not allowed, leaving vulnerable individuals isolated and unsupported rather than abandoning the animals they love.
Among those speaking at the Westminster event was Pet Remedy’s emotional wellbeing expert Andrew Hale, who said hearing directly from the vendors reinforced the importance of recognising the emotional connection between people and animals.
Andrew said: “Meeting the Big Issue vendors and their dogs really hammered home the message behind this campaign. The emotional connection between humans and animals is incredibly powerful, especially during periods of stress, trauma and uncertainty.
“You could see how much comfort, reassurance and emotional stability these dogs provide simply by being there beside their person. These relationships are not a luxury, they are essential emotional support systems.
“That is exactly why Pet Remedy is so proud to support the No One Left Outside campaign. It aligns completely with our values around emotional wellbeing, compassion and understanding the importance of the human-animal bond.”
Pet Remedy has become well known nationally for its work promoting calmer, lower-stress environments for animals, while continuing to operate from its Torquay base.
The company regularly works with behaviourists, trainers, rescue organisations and veterinary professionals, and has increasingly supported campaigns focused on the emotional wellbeing of both animals and the humans connected to them.
The parliamentary event highlighted the important role pets can play in helping vulnerable people feel emotionally grounded during periods of hardship, trauma and uncertainty, a message organisers hope will now lead to more compassionate housing policies across the UK.
