Tributes have poured in following the death of pet shop owner Barbara Mullarney, who was killed in a two-car crash. The other driver involved, a man aged 43, has appeared in court charged with murder.
Floral tributes lined the pavement outside Animal Fayre pet shop in Cricklade, near Cirencester, following Barbara’s death.
And friends and customers paid their own tributes on social media with one post saying: “Barbara was the most wonderful, generous, kind and warm person you could ever meet who supported an entire community.”
Another said: “Cricklade now has a huge hole in its community! The world lost a very special person,” while a further commented: “Her shop was a treasure trove of well thought out products.”
Anthony Howells, 43, of no fixed abode, appeared before Bristol Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) charged with murder, dangerous driving, driving with no insurance, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. His case was adjourned to Friday, August 7 and was remanded in custody.
The crash happened on June 30, at around 6:05pm. Emergency services descended on the B4696 between Brinkworth Road and Lydiard Plain, near Royal Wootton Bassett, following a crash involving an orange Peugeot 107 travelling southbound and a black Vauxhall Astra travelling northbound. Barbara, the driver of the Peugeot, was declared dead at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker said: “I would like to again extend my condolences to the family and friends of the victim and thank them for their patience and dignity during this early stage of the investigation.”
