A large independent, family-run, pet and country store, which has been trading for over 40 years, is now operating under new ownership.
CC Moore Pet & Animal Supplies, a well-known store on a Weymouth trading estate, has been renamed Hewlett’s Pet and Country Store following the move.
Chris Hewlett, who has worked at the store for nearly 25 years and managed it for the past 11, has taken over the business alongside his wife Lauren.
The shop continues to serve the local community from the same trusted location at Granby Court, retaining its full team and welcoming two new members as it enters its next phase of growth.
Hewlett’s Pet and Country Store is building on the strong foundations laid by the previous owners. The expanded offer includes everything from traditional pet supplies and animal feed to exotic pets, equestrian products, compost, plants and other country supplies, making it a one-stop shop for animal lovers and rural households.
Chris Hewlett said: “We’re incredibly proud to be taking the reins of a store that’s been at the heart of the community for so long. Our priority is listening to customers and continuing to meet their needs – whether that means increasing our product ranges or simply offering helpful advice.”
The Hewlett family are no strangers to local business. Chris’ grandfather ran the popular Hewlett’s fruit and veg business in Weymouth and his delivery lorry was a regular sight around town. Chris continues that tradition of reliable local service, right here at Granby Trading Estate.
CC Moore carp baits will still continue as a separate business based in North Dorset, and Hewlett’s will continue to stock the CC Moore baits.
Mickey Jones, Chief Executive of DJ Property who helped with the change of ownership, said: “CC Moore has been a trusted name on the estate for decades, and it is great to see the business continue with the same capable and experienced team. Chris knows the customers and understands the business inside out. Hewlett’s Pet & Country Store is in a strong position for the future.”
DJ Property has supported businesses at Granby Trading Estate for over 60 years, working closely with tenants as they grow, evolve or adapt.
