Grove Pet Foods bought by Cranswick

Cranswick has acquired the Lincolnshire-based dry dog food producer Grove Pet Foods Ltd, with the deal being announced on Monday (January 31).

Grove Pet Foods Ltd is the home of the Alpha Feeds and Vitalin brands.

Cranswick, based in East Yorkshire, said the acquisition would allow it to expand into the UK pet food market, and open up opportunities for vertical integration, particularly with its fresh poultry and pork businesses.

Adam Couch, CEO of Cranswick, said: "I am delighted to announce the acquisition of Grove Pet Foods, a well-invested manufacturer of dry pet food supplying leading brands focussed on the specialist pet retail market.

“This acquisition represents a platform for future growth in the attractive UK pet food market and diversification into this complementary category for Cranswick. The existing facility has capacity and a footprint for further expansion."

Grove Pet Foods managing director John Walgate will continue to lead the business.
