Theo Paphitis supports National Skills Event

To mark the success of The Skills Show, the nation’s largest skills and careers event, world-famous photographer Rankin has shot a new and exclusive portrait of retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis with visual merchandiser Laurie Miller, in a bid to encourage young adults to discover their secret skills.

Along with the Rankin photograph, Theo has also supported The Skills Show by recording a short video talking about and demonstrating his Secret Skills.

“I am passionate about improving skills levels across the UK,” says Mr Paphitis, who was the Patron of the event for the second year, “not least because our economy needs a skilled workforce to ensure we can be competitive and continue to develop and expand.

"Business needs to attract the very best talent in order to succeed, and The Skills Show was a great way for organisations to showcase the opportunities which are available to young people as they enter the world of work.”

“The Skills Show inspires young people with opportunities to discover what they are good at and what they enjoy,” explains Ross Maloney.

“We are thrilled that Rankin has partnered with us in this activity to create a range of stunning photographs that show young people what can be achieved through skills – we are certain that they will provide many of our audience with motivation to develop their skills and use them to start a new career.”

The Skills Show, which was held at the NEC Birmingham, provided hands-on experiences that aimed to inspire young people to explore further education, skills and apprenticeships.

More than 75,000 people attended the free event to discover what they are good at and what they enjoy, and how these skills can be transferred into a potential career. In addition to hands-on experiences where visitors can have a go at a broad range of new skills, careers advisers were also on hand to provide information and guidance about the next steps open to visitors.

Talented students from across the country showcased their skills in careers as diverse as catering, car maintenance and fashion design, while professionals from a broad range of industries gave inspirational Spotlight talks to provide an insight into a variety of careers and training routes.
