Upcycled furniture for pampered pets

Pampered pooches are in for a treat thanks to a new range of bespoke dog accessories being produced by a Leicestershire charity.

Doggie beds, cupboards and drawer sets have all been created by Work-Link service users with help from support workers and the charity’s furniture restorer in Hinckley.

Made entirely from furniture donated to the charity which otherwise would have ended up at the local tip the pet collection is now on sale.

Work-Link offers ‘hands-on’ work experience to people with learning disabilities and mental health issues encouraging them to help transform unwanted items into saleable pieces and learn about retail opportunities in the charity’s dedicated town centre shop.

Mandy Quinn, project manager for Work-Link, said: “I am very proud of this collection. It’s original, fun and each piece would definitely be a talking point in any household.

“On a more serious note these pieces are helping to upskill our service users as they are learning basic carpentry skills alongside soft skills such as communication and teamwork.

“As a small charity trying to make ends meet these items will also generate a welcome, small income.”

Work-Link either sells on the items directly in their shop on Regent Street, refurbishes them or donates them to families in desperate need.
