Five puppies and four kittens were among the 134 animals to arrive at Wood Green in the days leading up to the charity's ‘National Unwanted Pet Week’...

Wood Green, with centres in Cambridgeshire, North London, Hertfordshire and Northampton launched the campaign to highlight the increasing number of pets in rescue centres.

Harriet, Harry, Hugo, Humpty and Hermione were brought to Wood Green as an unplanned litter. The 10-week-old tan and white cross breed puppies will be microchipped, neutered and given vaccinations, flea and worming treatment to ensure they get off to a healthy start in their new homes.

Six-week-old kittens Magneto, Wolverine, Mystique and Xavier were found abandoned by a member of the public and brought to Wood Green where they will be cared for until forever homes can be found.

Seven-year-old Storm is the latest pet to arrive at Wood Green. The white tabby cat was left in a cat carrier during a heavy thunder storm, in the pouring rain at the Charity’s Godmanchester Centre on Thursday afternoon.

Sally Stevens, Director of Income Services at Wood Green, said: “We asked animal-lovers to provide the cost of a day of care for one of the animals we provide food, shelter, love and attention for every day across our four centres. We rely entirely on public donations to continue our work.”

Throughout the week, Wood Green encouraged animal lovers to pledge their support by filling in an ‘I care’ card or donate a day’s care to one of the 600 animals at its centres.
