A mortified dog owner claims her pooch’s jaw got STUCK in a toy – and had to be surgically removed for more than £350.

Samantha Trofimowicz, aged 47, gave two-year-old cockapoo Moet a new £13.99 treat-dispensing toy she had purchased from Aldi in Fenton.

But just 30 minutes later, Samantha heard a shrieking sound and says she found Moet with her mouth stuck inside the hard plastic Foobler, with blood and saliva around the ball.

Samantha rushed Moet to the vets where the ball was removed from the tongue and teeth – landing her with a whopping £353.60 bill.

The physiotherapist alleges if she had not been home when Moet became injured her beloved pet could have died.

Aldi has now apologised to Samantha and the toy’s designer said they were seeking to make improvements.

But furious Samantha now wants the product to be recalled.

She said: “I had only given the toy to Moet for half an hour when I heard the most deafening scream come from her – I knew she was in pain.

“When I looked over I could see that her jaw was stuck in the toy, and when I touched it I knew it wasn’t coming off.

“It was 6.30pm at night, so I had to take her to an emergency vets as all of the others nearby were shut.

“They had to sedate her and cut the toy away from her mouth – leaving me with a massive vet bill, all for a £13.99 toy!

“It worries me that the toy is designed for dogs to keep themselves entertained when their owners aren’t home, but I fear that if I wasn’t home when this happened she would’ve died.”

Moet was treated at at nearby clinic Vets Now in Fenton within the hour.

Samantha added: “They took her into the room and examined her jaw and told me that they’d have to sedate her, as it didn’t look like it was coming off.

“I went home and waited while she was in surgery, and while I was home I had to mop her blood off from the floor.

“Luckily I got a phone call just an hour and a half later to tell me that she was OK and I could come and pick her up.

“When I got there they told me that her tongue and teeth had got stuck inside the toy and that they had to sedate her to cut through the toy – it was a horrific experience!”

Moet is now recovering from the traumatic experience at home, but Samantha is striving for answers as to how this happened.

An Aldi spokesman said: “We have apologised to Ms Trofimowicz and have asked her to return the product to store so we can look into this with our supplier.”

The designers of the Foobler toy said they had been contacted by Samantha and several other dog owners and had invited them to help them improve the toy.

A spokesman from the Foobler team said: "Our drain for this toy is not intended for chewing.

"Thought the design process, we consider the playing experience and education value to dogs.

“We do continue to improve and consider how it works for different dogs, and put our experiences and messages in the instructions.

"We did include information in the packaging that the toy is not suitable for heavy chewers, as well as the mouth size information.

"It was a rare case as we have sold the item for 4.5 years.

“But we really want to improve it and try to understand how this happened.

"So we are insisting to have improvements made to avoid this happening again, even if it is a really rare issue.”
