One-in-three pet owners wish their pet could talk, according to a recent survey by PDSA.
When asked what superpower they would most like their pet to have, the majority said the power of speech so they could chat about their day!
The next most popular wish expressed by one in eight of the owners surveyed was to have their pet live forever or to have ‘eternal health’ so they wouldn’t ever be parted, which reinforces the UK’s animal loving status.
“These answers clearly show how important pets are to people,” said Elaine Pendlebury, PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon, “and while we don’t have a magic wand to grant eternal health, there are plenty of simple things owners can do to help improve their pet’s lives. A great place to start is by learning about the five animal welfare needs designed to keep pets healthy and happy.”
On the more practical side, nearly one-in-ten owners wanted pets to be able to pick up their own poop or clean their own litter tray, while three respondents wanted their pet to have some form of mind control or telepathic ability!
Several people claimed that their pet already had a superpower – of incredible flatulence! Others wished their pet had the ability to fly.
One owner also wished for his highly anxious and frightened rescue dog to have the power of bravery, while other responses given included pets having the power to escape abuse and mistreatment.
“We know that people love and want the best for their pets” continued Elaine. “A great place to start would be to watch PDSA’s short animation, which includes tips and advice on how to keep pets health and happy. For many pets, just a few small changes could help them to stay with us for longer.
