Watch the moment a man walks into a Swansea aquatic store and appears to take a fish from a tank before pocketing it.

Thomas Dodd, director at Aquatic Supplies Wales, said he was horrified when he discovered CCTV footage of the thief taking two fish straight from their tanks at the Fforestfach store.

“We noticed one of the tanks was messed up and when we reviewed the CCTV footage we saw the man stealing the fish,” said Thomas.

“You can see him over five minutes trying to catch the fish with his hand, he then catches one and drops it on the floor before picking it up and putting it in his pocket.

“Then he just casually walks out the store, stopping to chat to someone on the way. It was horrifying to see someone treat a living animal this way.”

Thomas added two fish were stolen – a six-inch long Japanese koi worth about £50 and a smaller koi.

He posted the CCTV footage on the store’s Facebook page and it has now been viewed almost 8,000 times.

He said: “There’s no way those fish were going to survive in a pocket like that. They can’t be out of water for more than a couple of minutes.

“We’ve had thefts before but nothing like this. It was unbelievable.”

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Police have received a report of theft from the Aquatic Supplies store in Fforestfach, Swansea which happened at around midday on Friday 27 February.

"The theft is being investigated and anyone who has any information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1500076456."
