It's all up in the air for Beco Pets
It was all up in the air for Beco Pets when Britain's top eco pet product company arrived at PATS Telford today. Airborne and incoming were 20 international distributors from seven countries across Europe, who had all been personally invited to the expo by Beco.
It was all up in the air for Beco Pets when Britain's top eco pet product company arrived at PATS Telford today.
Airborne and incoming were 20 international distributors from seven countries across Europe, who had all been personally invited to the expo by Beco.
This was the first time that the award-winning company, which exports to dozens of countries worldwide, had invited overseas delegates to a UK trade show.
Also hitting the airwaves was their new product, The Beco Flyer, launched at PATS, a new flying disc dog toy that whizzes through the air to the delight of their canine catchers.
The unique toy, available in orange and purple (colours that stand out in long grass so you never lose it), has an 'easy pick-up wobble' design, and is made from natural rubber and rice husks. Extra-soft, it's also completely safe for dogs to catch with no chance of damaging their teeth.
Beco's other new products unveiled at the expo include their Christmas toys and latest additions to the Beco Family dog toy characters, including Stella the Elephant and Michelle the Monkey.
And last but not least, also airborne and suspended 30 feet up, hovering perilously over the heads of PATS visitors, was the expo world's first giant poop bag!
Now the UK's top manufacturer of eco-friendly poop bags, Beco are giving away one million FREE poop bags at PATS shows this year. They are highlighting their 'Project Poop Bag' campaign by flying a giant green poop bag above their stand (Hall 2, stall C20).
Measuring 20ft by 8ft, the bag certainly caught the eye of passing trade ... and visitors were relieved to hear it was just filled with helium gas - and not real poop.
Beco Pets Co-Founder George Bramble said: "We decided to invite key European distributors to come and see the Beco brand in action, giving us a great opportunity to welcome them to Britain and show them our new products.
"We are thrilled that so many of our overseas friends and contacts took up our invitation, which gives us a great opportunity to talk business and also offers our distributors a chance to see what other great British products there are at the show.
"This is the first time in Beco Pets' six-year history that we have invited international delegates to join us at a show and day one has already proved a great success. It's been a fantastic show so far. Telford certainly ticks all the boxes for us."
Beco's guests included distributors and retailers from Farm Company in Italy, Two Barks from Norway, Warmako from The Netherlands, Whesco from Denmark, Christies from Ireland, Sušienkovo from the Czech Republic, Tujoma from Finland and other countries including Belgium and the Baltic states.
Annie Foord, PATS Telford Organiser, said: "We are delighted to be working with Beco Pets to promote the international flavour of PATS Telford, the home of our show for the first time.
"To see Beco Pets' growth and witness how the company has come along is very exciting for me to see and I'm very pleased that they are making best use of our show to promote their company."

TV Vet School star launches the KrillBar at PATS
Trude Mostue, star of the BBC hit programmes Vet School and Vets in Practice, is exhibiting at PATS Telford with her new company Dr Krill Ltd. Here she speaks exclusively to Pet Trade Xtra about her latest venture...
Trude Mostue, star of the BBC hit programmes Vet School and Vets in Practice, is exhibiting at PATS Telford with her new company Dr Krill Ltd. Here she speaks exclusively to Pet Trade Xtra about her latest venture.
How long have you been working on your new product? I have been working on the KrillBar for the last two years but I have treated most of my dog patients with skin complaints and joint complaints with Krill Omega 3 for 10 years. The effects have been incredible. There are so many allergic dogs with skin problems - they have all done remarkable well on Krill. This is what triggered my idea of producing the KrillBar - which is very different from any other product on the market, being a highly efficient Omega 3 supplement and treat - in the form of a 'chocolate' bar..
Is it a dog treat or can it be given as pet food? The KrillBar is a treat and a supplement. It can be given with the dog's food or on its own. It can be used as a treatment and as a preventative supplement. Most of my customers use it as a treat - but some of them also like to give it on the top of the food to give the dog food a nice smell. Dogs love the smell of krill. What are its health benefits? The KrillBar is made of Krill Omega 3 and an antioxidant - it is a highly efficient source of Omega 3 in comparison to Omega 3 from fish or seal oil. The Krill Omega 3 is absorbed faster and contains antioxidants too. This means its more efficient in smaller volumes and doses (no mess with oils). The health benefits are many - all dogs of all ages and breeds can benefit from Krill Omega 3. It helps improve brain development (excellent for growing puppies). It has anti inflammatory effect on joints and inflammatory processes elsewhere in the body. I have used high doses to treat cronic itchy dogs. The effect on skin is amazing, making the skin and coat shiny and healthy. Omega 3 stimulates the immune system too, lymaking dogs more resilient to infections and disease. This effect is particular obvious to dogs with chronic skin disease due to demodex (poor immune system). What does it contain? The KrilllBar contains high levels of Krill Omega 3 and anthaxin (antioxidant). I use the same krill source in the KrillBar as Boots use in their Omega Red, only the best for our dogs. Is it on sale in other European countries or it is being launched now? I decided to launch it in the UK first of all - but I am aiming to launch in the USA and Asia too. I am actually selling the KrillBar through Pets At Home and Barkers already (It's on a trial in Pets At Home). But I haven´t officially launched the KrillBar yet - as I have waited for PATS Telford. Why did you pick PATS Telford for its UK launch? In my opinion it is the best place to launch a pet product in the UK - it gives you good and professional exposure . Will you be supplying British retailers direct or go through a distributor/wholesaler? I will be doing both but also through vets' surgeries. Is the first of many products which you hope to launch under the Dr Krill banner? Yes, I am so impressed about the effect of Krill on dogs health so I am planning more products to be launched next year.

Greenacres Artificial Grass are exhibiting the Puppi Loo pet training system at PATS Telford.
Managing director Peter Johnson said the product was designed after feedback at other trade shows about the need for an absorbent feature.
The synthetic grass mat has a base tray containing absorbent training pads. The owner of a puppy can train the animal to use the mat indoors and then gradually take it outdoors where it can be positioned in either a real grass lawn or an artificial one.
Puppi Loo is invaluable on those days when adverse weather conditions deter a pet from venturing outdoors. It introduces a pet to a grass surface in the comfort of a home, and helps to promote a smooth transition to either a real or artificial grass lawn.

Collarways is launching the Stay Over Rover bag to the trade at PATS Telford.
This innovative new product is the ideal way of organising the multitude of accessories that dog owners now have in one handy receptacle.
The 360 degree swivel hook at the top means that the bag can be hung open in a multitude of places – the car, in hotels and bathrooms, on the outside of a crate and most importantly out of the reach of the dog.
Multiple zipped compartments ensure that items such as treats, medication and liquids can be secured away from each other and there’s even a special opening for easy poo bag dispensing.
Even when the bag is full it will still close for easy carrying and storage and it also comes with a shoulder strap for effortless transportation. The holdall has been specifically designed for dog owners by a dog owner. “As a part of my job I have to travel often and either take my dog with me or leave him with friends. I found that I was constantly rooting around in the bag I used before to check I had a spare lead, enough poo bags, the treats he likes etc. Everything was totally unorganised,” says Collarways director Katie Goldsmith.
“Using the Stay Over Rover makes it all so much easier as I can clearly see what needs topping up and if anything is missing. It also takes away some of the guilt feeling that maybe I forgot his favourite toy or treats, when I leave him with other people.” Ideal for so many situations other than just travelling with your dog the Stay Over Rover is a great way of keeping everything in one place at home and in the car too. Another quality product from Collarways, which is also manufactured in the UK. For more information visit www.collarways.com or call 0845 4568395.

AmPet unveil innovative American products

Two innovative new products from the USA – the AKC Calming Coat and the Twigo Pet ID Tag – have sent visitors flocking to the AmPet Products stand (A43) at PATS Telford.
The AKC Calming Coat, endorsed by the American Kennel Club along with New York vet Jeff Lavine and UK Tellington TTouch practitioner Alex Wilson, is an easy and cost effective solution for helping dogs and puppies suffering from anxiety. The Calming Coat uses a hugging technique to relax the dog and works by applying constant, gentle pressure to the animal's torso. Similar to swaddling a newborn baby, gently wrapping a dog in a Calming Coat has a peaceful effect that is beneficial for both the owner and pet. Demand for the Calming Coat will be high in the coming months, especially with the firework season fast approaching. AmPet will also showcase the Twigo Pet ID Tag, a unique tag that is simple, affordable, and instantly personalisable. All that is needed is a ballpoint pen to simply write, boil in water, and then slip onto our pet’s collar. Twigo is a great option for pet families planning to travel for the holidays since owners can easily create a new tag with updated lodging and contact information in a blink of an eye. More information about the Twigo Tags, including a video, can be found at www.ampetproducts.com/our-range/twigo-pet-id-tag/ “It's great to be exhibiting these products at PATS Telford,” said Alex Wilson, AmPet’s Sales and Marketing Director. “To secure the UK distribution rights for both the AKC Calming Coat and the Twigo Tags was a coup for AmPet. They are innovative products ideally suited to the British market. Pet owners here will love them.” Also on the AmPet stand will be DOOG outdoor pet products, including dog-walking and running belts, collars and leads, and treat pouches from Australia. If you’re interested in stocking products from AmPet contact Alex Wilson or Matt Wildman on 0330 088 1673, email alexw@ampet.dog or view the range at www.ampet.dog

The Company of Animals is launching Foobler, the world's first electronic timed treat feeder for dogs. It can be used as a stimulating treat puzzle or interactive feeder to improve a dog’s activity and health.
The Foobler can be set to dispense one of its six treat compartments at 15, 30, 60 or 90 minute intervals. A bell chime alerts the dog when a treat pod is ready and it’s time to play. Leading animal psychologist and The Company of Animals CEO, Dr Roger Mugford said: “I am delighted to add Foobler to the company’s range of problem solving products.

After launching their Award Winning Easy-Tie at PATS Sandown last year, Happy Paws has revealed two new innovations at PATS Telford.Happy Paws is all about making pets' and people's lives safer, healthier and happier…and this new range does just that!
At PATS Telford the company is offering a 10% discount on all orders over £100 placed at the show. This means retailers will be getting up to a 95% margin on products that really add value to their customers and their dogs! You can meet the brother and sister team (Tim and Sophia) on stand E9. What are they and what’s different about them?
The GoSafely range is a follow-on product from the multi-Award Winning Easy-Tie, incorporating its Easy-Secure functionality into a premium quality, highly reflective, padded lead with matching collar and harness set. The matching collars and harnesses incorporate premium padding, highly reflective webbing and are fully adjustable, ensuring maximum ease, safety and comfort.
The AquaTech range is a 100% waterproof lead, collar and harness set. Using innovative technology, water is repelled from the webbing with benefits including; no more damp-smelling leads/collars/harnesses; no more irritation to dogs; less risk of infection caused by excessive scratching; less risk of skin conditions caused by wet collars and harnesses; easy wipe clean; and no running colours, meaning the items stay attractively bright! This preventative and innovative brand means that dogs are at far lesser risk from developing skin conditions that are caused by wet collars and harnesses. The GoSafely and AquaTech sets have very attractive recommended retail prices ranging from £5.49 - £14.99 and HUGE margins (95% at PATS Telford).
You can visit the Happy Paws team on stand E9, Hall 1 at PATS Telford, or call them on 01792 346226 or send an email to info@happy-paws.net. www.happy-paws.net
