Hedgehog set for internet stardom

This prickly creature is set to become an Internet star - as an adorable video of a hedgehog goes viral.

Colleen Regan uploaded the video of her pet hedgehog Nuala grooming - and it has been watched over 90,000 times.

Nuala washes her four little paws with her tongue for almost a minute in the film - becoming the world's most popular hedgehog in the process.

Viewers were entranced, one saying: "It's so cute I can barely handle it!" Another American fan added: "Are they legal to own in Los Angeles? I WANT ONE!"

The video has had the unintentional affect of raising awareness for hedgehog care. Once the video became popular, Regan updated it saying: "As this video has become so popular, I feel it necessary to inform people a little more about Hedgehogs.

"They are very cute and can be sweet, but they are A LOT different than other pets. Hedgehogs are not like hamsters or guinea pigs, they require A LOT more attention and care."

Regan says that Nuala  is lucky to be alive. "[She] had the equivalent of a hysterectomy in February because she had endometriosis and possible pre-cancerous cells in her uterus. In the year and 8 months I've owned her, I've racked up about $2,000 in vet bills."

Viewers have also given advice on how to help the little critters: "PLEASE tell all your friends to NOT put slug/snail poisoning down as the hedgehogs (and birds) eat them and sadly it kills them too."
